Has Silsden gone mad ?. On Friday 26th May I witnessed what can only be described as a "riot" on thre main street, which appeared to be caused by a large gang of kids.
Then on Monday night Outside Lazeez restaurant I watched the police (Dogs and the lot) arrest several people who they flushed out from the beck side behind the shops.
I suppose we should be grateful that the police responded quickly in both cases, but can anyone tell me what is the cause of the problem, is it drugs, out of towners or just idiots ?
Any comments appreciated |

Some idiot has pushed a large concrete flower bed into the beck. When are the cameras coming? |

It happened at about 9pm on friday. As I was heading up town to the Coop I noticed a large number of youths congregating around the bell square car park. After visiting the Coop (and a quick pint) I headed back down town at about 9.30 and all hell had broken loose. An ambulance down by the Cafe bar 6 or 7 police cars and more coppers than an average episode of the Bill.
I heard later that a youth had been bottled down by the travel agents, also the rumour is that a lot of those involved actually came over here from Leeds. (although these are Silsden rumours e.g. fart at the bridge and by the time you get to the king you s&*t yourself)
I dont suppose we will ever get the full story, the Keighley news is unlikely to cover it (It does'nt seem to like Silsden)
What is the world coming to.

I was in the Robin all Monday night and can assure you that ir had no involvement with the incident. No knife wielding nutter, just a good view of the action from the front window |

so,what was the action? It seems to me that a lot goes on in Silsden and you never find out about it. Is it poilicy to sweep things under the carpet, or aren't the local papers interested in Silsden ? |

What's new. Didn't the locals burn the police station down in 1904 or there abouts. |

We've been living in Silsden for over a year now and have not really experienced any trouble... until now.
Some drunk idiots caused real havoc three weeks ago, obviously couldn't handle their drink and at chucking out time decided to really let loose!
They made a right mess of the roadworks in the highstreet and at 2:15am they threw a traffic cone at our bedroom window while we were asleep. The idiots did not seem to consider the consequences of their actions nor the potential risk of injury or cost of the damaged they caused.
How people can act in such a pathetic and stupid way is truely beyond me? You can't tell me blame it on the drink!
Bring on the high street cameras! When are they due? |

heard there was another commotion outside the robin last friday I wonder whether the extended opening hours has any bearing on the increase in trouble ? Does silsden have a pubwatch scheme and a banning order for drinking in the street or carrying glasses and bottles from pub to pub like they do in skipton? there is always a lot of broken glass in the high street. |

If the trouble happened at 2-15am then thats way past the new "chucking out time".Most of this recent trouble I understand is from kids who havent started going to pubs yet. The trouble is we in this country have let a generation of 14 year olds go out and get legless.Add to the current crop of young drinkers a lot of 25 year olds have upto 11 years hard drinking experience. Then people wonder why people cause havoc. |

We hear noise from the odd group of people making their way back home from the pub late on an evening. This used to be between 11pm-12pm, but now it can be anytime between 12pm-2am. I can only see this as a direct result of the extended drinking hours in the high street.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not moaning about the licensing hours... but can say for sure that the idiots who smashed our window were definitely not kids. These idiots caused over £900 worth of damage to our property – But I doubt the police will ever catch up with them, leaving us with a high insurance excess to pay.
I suspect the kids are the ones who find it funny to knock on our windows as they walk past... as I said in my earlier post – we've been living here for over a year and you would have thought the novelty would wear off? – Why bother to do this?
The other night I heard a lad outside our window say - "oh look, there's a bottle" then shortly afterwards I heard it smash. You will always get some people who don't have a respect for society and are a law unto themselves. It's a shame because it's these people that bring a place a bad name.
Silsden is a great place and has great people living here. It's just the fools that don't seem to appreciate Silsden and it's community that are causing the real problem here.
What can we really do about it? |

last night there was a few lads on skipton road waiting for the keighley bus (arround 10.20) using cars as goals even sitting on the cars, glad i dont live there. I called the police when i got home, just off skipton road, as i could still hear them but the police said that they had no one to attend.
isnt it great that silsden police station has shut!!
i now hear that skipton police station is shutting and relying on keighley, so fewer police in silsden.
All i can say is that i'm glad my house is for sale and i can leave silsden, which is a shame but i feel that i have been driven away! |

That surely can't be right. We pay our taxes for police to attend such an incident. It's criminal damage and the perpetrators should be dealt with. I think you need to contact the local council with a complaint about this. If Silsden is seen as a lesser priority then we should surely get a discount on that part of our council tax. It's not up to us to subsidise a police force for other areas. |
