Following on from my previous post which I ended by looking back when Hothfield Street was a Secondary School in the 1950's. Mr Brown was the Headmaster and other teachers which I can remember was Mr Tindall who taught science. He was a small man and very strict. During my last year in 1959 I was in Mrs Waugh's class which was the library. I also think her husband taught there as well. Other teachers which comes to mind are Miss Ingham (Later to be known as Mrs Fry) Mr Southall who taught art. Keith Whalley who taught P.E.He used to play cricket for Steeton. I had just started playing for the juniors at that time. There was also Keith Marsden who used to teach in the old prefab Building. One of the respected and popular teachers was a Mr Haggart. There was another teacher who taught Religious Knowledge but I can't remember her name. I didn't know a single person who looked forward to Religious Knowledge. I think that a Mr Whittle used to teach woodwork and I beleive a Mr Skull used to be the singing teacher. I can't think of any other teachers unless someone else can. As anyone else any memories of when Hothfield Street was a secondary school? |

"Any body remember Mr Kelly the sports (PE) Teacher " OH YES . Would be sacked from any school today for the things he did ,tried to do or didn't do . Was a moment of great joy when I met him many years later at a reunion . The look of fear on his face when he recognized me & the fact I was now a lot bigger than him . A sweat moment in life . |
