This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I agree. It's good to see it. Let's hope the minority band of vandals/drunks don't see it as a good target.

Just shows how often people walk round Silsden with their eyes closed (or possibly don't walk round the town at all).

If you have a look at the flower beds in front of Wesley place car park you will notice a new sculpture that was erected on Thursday. Its a styilized nail to represent our nail making heritage.

I believe it was made and donated by the gentleman from Arabesque.

Hopefully people will see it on their annual foray into the town for the Gala today.javascript:smileyInsert(topicform.message, 'wink ;)');

Or possibly its a throw back to the 80's to celebrate Copperhead cider (have a look on google images)

Is the howling wolf beyond Nab End still there? I heard it had been dismantled. I've not been up there for a good month or so. I hope it's still there. I thought it rather impressive.

Well something like this is a matter for personal taste I think and this person isn't sure he likes it. It may grow on me, we'll see.

I haven't had chance to have a close look yet, but it's great to see things that make town look better and celebrate the towns heritage.

Any modern sculpture or art always spilts opinion but personally from what I have seen I like it. I like the fact its already rust coloured so it looks like it been there for years happy :)

Hey Skippy i am entitled to my opinion.... and that is exactly how i feel. I DO like the plinth which is still a postive comment, and i am not so taken on the new-rust.... so?

I live in silsden, i have done for all me'years and i have an opinion.... its ok to share right?

people wont give their opinions on here if we get accosted on our thoughts.... i dont really mind (i'm a big girl) but others will be put off.....

Whatta i know anyway!

You dont wish to be rude just a little bit clever.... you know i am entitled to my opinion and i didn't inspect it close up, it looks like stone to me AND i was actually making a positive comment...i thought that part looked well executed.

This is a forum for people of silsden to express their thoughts, i wasnt being rude or argumentative thankyou....

Oppps i didnt mean to post 2 replies last night... my comp did a hissy so i thought my first reply had got lost....

I am sure the artist responcible for this piece of work would agree when i say that ART is all about creating a relationship between the work and the viewer.... provoking thought and discussion, regardless of the nature of that discussion, so i think its fair to say that this work is succesful because it does provokes reaction and thought. nuff said.happy :)

Art is a very personal things and what one person finds tasteful and attractive, another person will find distasteful and unattractive. While I love The Nail, I don't expect everyone else to agree with me. But isn't this what life is all about? If we all liked the same thing, wouldn't the world be a boring place?

wouldn't a straight nail have looked more professional to our predecessors? I'm sure they wouldn't be proud of a bent one.
