“There have been a number of recent ‘car jackings’ in the Shipley area. Apparently the car jackers stick a note on the back window of the parked car and lay in wait ready for the driver to step out of the car to take the note off. They then jump into the car and speed off, taking bag/keys etc with them. The police are aware of the incidents and you should be extra vigilant if you park in the local area.” |

Peter, are the cars parked when the sticker is placed on them? If so why when the driver is checking the car over BEFORE they get in; didn't they remove the sticker? If you drive off first you can't report a fail to stop RTC because you don't know when or where it took place, when you later find the car damaged or the car could also have a flat tyre. It's the driver’s responsibility to make sure the vehicle is in a full road worthy condition before they take it on the road! |

Don't shoot the messenger! We don't all check round the car before we get in to drive off from a parking space BUT we should at least check in the rear view mirror before driving off and this is what the hijackers are counting on. What you do next could result in your car being stolen  |

this sounds similar to a story that was doing the rounds a while back is it definiteley true? |

Does it matter if it's true or not?... put your self in the position of coming back from a bit of shopping, you get in the car and you are just about to drive off and you see a piece of paper on the back window.... Do you leave the keys in the ignition and just pop to the back to retrieve the piece of paper? Do you take the keys but leave your bag on the passenger seat? Of course you lock everything before you get the note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this post makes you think, and stops your car from being hijacked, then it's done its job. |
