Silsden Town Council is still accepting ideas from the public but has so far agreed to forward an application from Silsden Cricket and Football Club for funding to rebuild its changing rooms.

Is this a good use of the money? More information ... www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/newsairevalley/newsaire/display.var.1751993.0.public_asked_to_dream_up_ways_of_spending_100_000.php

Is the £100,000 for Silsden or just a share of it?
I dont think building infrastructure like a roundbout should use this money.Thats Bradford Councils job.
I would support some going to the football club because it gives youngsters something to do keeping them off the streets.

So Silsden has a population I would imagine more than Steeton & Eastburn combined but only gets the same shame. It should be worked out per head of population.

Don't forget Addingham 'gazzer'. I would suppose Addingham will get a third, Silsden a third, and Steeton and Eastburn a third.

The town council can only put forward ideas, as individuals can!

So, as your district councillors, Messers Naylor, Kelly, and Mallinson will be making the decisions feel free to e-mail them!

Their contact details are on here.

I don't think this public money should be used to build something so mundane as changing rooms, and roundabouts should be funded by Bradford Council I'm sure that's why we pay council tax!

The money is a windfall which Bradford Council will match in funds (I seem to remember). Can't we be a bit more imaginative than a changing room or a roundabout?

The money should be used on something everyone can enjoy - the bandstand, an adventure playground for adults, sculpture ...... lets have a few more ideas and something a bit better than "there is some money going lets apply for it then we won't have the problem of raising the money"

Does anyone know if there is a time limit for a decision to be made on the money?

Good points well put Fred and I agree the money shouldnt go on changing rooms. However that is not what the football club hope to achieve.
Silsden Junior Football Club take on many local children and a large number play for the club fo 10 or more years. It keeps them off the streets.According to a report just today many kids face becoming obese because they no longer play sport other than computer games. The cricket club who will share the facilities offer the same to kids. The aim is to get them involved in active sport.
Changing rooms are not the the reason for the building. It as I understand include facilities to educate and coach the towns youngsters.Obviously as it is geared for outdoor sports it will include changing rooms.
Its about time Silsden had decent sporting facilities but the volenteers cant do it alone

Alan,

Whilst a bandstand in the park is a nice idea, would you want to attract families to the park that is used as a dog toilet, a place for underage drinkers/drug users. How long would a band stand last before it was vandalised ?

'tetleydrinker' I don't think we should run our lives on what negatives may happen!

If the park was a general place of recreation perhaps all the negatives may not happen.

My vote is still for a bandstand.

whilst I agree that young people need help to keep occupied in evenings and at weekends, what about something for the elderly? maybe a club or meeting place, or some support for an existing facility. we sometimes forget the elderly, and they can't always help themselves to improve their lives in some way.

I think there are already quite a few clubs etc for the elderley in silsden.they have get togethers/meetings etc in the building behind the library then there is an over 55 club at the methodist one morning a week, the bowling club, the civic society and there used to be an elderley and disabled club in the town hall, not sure whether that is still on. Then there is Gloucester Avenue and I think the shelterd accomodation organise social events so plenty going on.

Would it really cost £1.5 million to build a footbridge over the Aire Valley dual carriageway!

www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/newsskipton/display.var.1770227.0.districts_100_000_windfall.php

Maybe the railway would help out with the cost?
wink ;)
