IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Support the Fell Rescue Teams! |

| offcumden |
I'm sure we all want to support the local rescue teams - the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association based at Grassington, the Cave Rescue Organisation based at Clapham and the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team based at Mytholmroyd, - they are all volunteers and assist the police in helping in all sorts of incidents in our area. Currently "OffCom" are proposing to change the way they allocate radio frequencies and all rescue teams are concerned that they will be 'squeezed out' by commercial interests. Read the full story at: www.grough.co.uk/view/2008/10/19/appeal-to-gordon-brown-to-stop-mountain-rescue-radio-charges/ There is a process to express one's concerns directly to OffCom at www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/aip/howtorespond/ but the normal person will give up after a few minutes attempting to do it. However we can all express our support of the MRT's by signing the No.10 petition at petitions.number10.gov.uk/MRT-RF-licences/ - this is very quick and easy to do, Please do it! |

Done - a very worthwhile cause, always happy to help them. Lets get some more signatures - its not just serious mountaineers that they help, they help all sorts of folk, they could even help you, so sign it just in case. |

quoteWhat the chance of Skippy ,Greengrass and Dogcatcher being rescued from up a mountain ... The rescue teams often help out in road traffic accidents, missing people, dogs stuck down rabbit holes/sewers, farm animals in difficulties etc... They were heavily involved in searching for that little girl who "went missing" in Dewsbury earlier this year too... |

Looks like there could be some good news, thanks to all those who have signed the petition so far. www.grough.co.uk/view/2008/10/21/ofcom-we-wont-charge-mountain-rescue-teams/ |
