OMG

Yesterday (friday) the schools broke up for some kids.... and the teenagers were all drinking and starting fires in the rugby section of the park on top of the hill. i play with my small children in the fenced off toddler section and one teenager threw a glass beer bottle down so it hit the fence....... i was furious and yelled at the 'thrower' to come pick it up.... which they did.

This morning i have been and i am really upset.... hundreds of glass bottle all over the park... some smashed.

WORSE..... INTENTIONAL GLASS smashed and scattered all over the childrens climbing frame and slide. I spent over an hour sweeping it up just so the mindless wasters cant spoil anyones fun today......

my 3 year old said, "maybe when the teenagers grow up they will realise what they have done"...

So if anyone has a carrier bag can you please pick some of the bottles up... lets work togther to show these idiots that they cant win.

Sorry, rant over (well WHO CAN I RANT TO?) sad :(suggestions.......??

!!

what a shame, its time some tough action was taken with these yobs, did anyone ring the police do you know? maybe it would have been a good idea for photos to be taken, pity there wasn't anyone around with a video camera!! I suspected there might be trouble, combination of nice weather and gcse's finishing.Perhaps the parents of kids who finished their exams yesterday should be asking what their kids were up to .

There are some big big questions here, about the use and supervision of our park and the behaviour of our teenagers. Most districts are sadly facing similar issues.

No use simply ranting at officials from Bradford (tempting tho' it is to let off steam in this way!) Its a challenge for our community: we
need to come up with some local solutions. (Interesting that the teenager who threw the bottle did retrieve it when you challenged him: that's a start, at least! And a lesson for us all)
The park is well-known as a 'hot-spot' in the evenings. Many parents of smaller kids therefore won't go. Big mistake.Families could go together and re-claim the playgrounds. It happened the other evening when I was there: teenagers messing about on the kiddies' equipment quickly moved off without fuss when a couple of dads and tots arrived. Because its a hot-spot at predictable times, why is there not a bigger visible presence from the community support officers/rangers etc? Might funding be available for a park warden/worker? There's a lot of new heritage money available for both parks and work with children and young people.Or could we form a "community park watch"?
Youth cafes in other districts are proving a good way of'diverting' teenagers from mindless behaviour. Great results from the one at Shipley. What about returning the park pavilion to this sort of community use?

Yesterday I put the contact details of the neighbourhood policing team on the website - see the link under Town Council and repeated here for your convenience.

silsden.net/town_council/police_contact.htm

Perhaps we should all put the direct contact number in our mobiles Tel. 01274 475308

I will be adding more information to this page from the neighbourhood policing team so keep looking.

Once again, we've managed to make ALL teenagers sound like terrible, mindless yobs.

'and the teenagers were all drinking and starting fires' - I wasn't.

I walk my dog (always picking up my dog dirt I might add) every morning in the park and every Monday morning we pick up bottles, smashed as well as cans. I have 2 teenagers, one just starting his G.C.S.E 's so they have not finished yet. It is the same group that has been doing it for more than a year, lets all go to town meeting and get policing up there every evening, and start fining the kids parents for vandalism, I know where my two are tonight, not every parent cares !!!

well claymoreking....... not a time to get defensive.... how about showing some agreement that it is DISGUSTING what many of those teenagers did in the park.... whilst all the others watched. If you were one of those non-throwers how about sharing some details about who was involved?

i used to be a teenager once..... sprinkling glass over kiddies slides was not something i ever did and not something i would watch my 'mates' doing.

There are a mojority its true..... but surely i can still point out how horrible the minority are ???????

No point ringing the Police because they wont do anything about it.Six underage drinkers taken to court and 56 cautioned in the whole of the UK per year. The facts prove its a waste of time involving the police.

babba100 - I think that their behaviour is totally disgusting, as you say. I can assure you I wasn't a 'non-thrower', so I can't give you any details.

The law of unintended consequences.

Anyone working with young people, volunteer or paid, cannot do so until their record is checked for previous undesirable activities.

Result: who is going to volunteer and then have to submit to official nosey parkerdom.

It is popular paranoia that will have zero effect on the activities of those with weird ideas, but plenty of effect on the up standing citizen who might think about getting involved.

Not forgetting all the rules about not clipping them around the ear hole (so to speak).

Who wants to get involved with youngsters these days?

The beck and the banks of the beck are as bad. And the same with the path behind the methodist church.

But the question has to be asked why are we all sitting at on our backsides at our PC's moaning when we could, especially given the recent good weather all be out and cleaning it up. Maybe if it was tidy in the first place then it wouldn't encourage people to drop more litter.

Then again maybe not as we have had discussion before and there have never been any volunteers.

Just another suggestion, there is a postbox in the post office for notes to the local pcso's you just write down your complaint or whatever and put in the box.You don't have to give your details, you just give them the facts such as date, time and location of incident.Or you can send e-mail now but that will not be anonymous.
I would have thought that anyone living by the park must see this sort of behaviour and if they all phoned the police every time, maybe police will get the message, its no good giving up, you have to become a pain in the b*m then maybe they will take action.Another suggestion is possibly a public meeting in Town Hall with police invited .
I know in some areas, police or local residents have swamped the trouble spots and followed the youths round with video cameras in their faces, apparantley it works.

(to fraggle) Silsden Youth Council cleaned up the beck as a project (not recently) and as soon as we had done that, the next day..... it was full of rubbish again!! But putting your conserns or whatever into a box does not do anything, they take one look and they will go one night and if nothing is wrong they wont go again. WE NEED REAL POLICE!! no p.c.s.o's POLICE!!!!

If we all ring the Police when it's happening then they will come out. That's what they're there for.
This mindless anti-Police attitude won't get us anywhere. I'm sure they do some great work and even ring parents when kids are found drunk. It's a shame some parents don't do much.
Police are at the town hall every Wednesday at 3 so go and chew their ear off. I do.

I think you are all missing one vital point!
If the parents of these nuisance youths took on board their parental responsibilities and made sure they knew where and what their little darlings were doing, then it wouldn't matter how many police were patrolling in the town.
I blame the parents for the problem.
