This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

did everyone manage to vote yesterday? I have never seen a queue like it!! mind you I think that whoever split the numbers made a mistake as two queues hardly had anyone in them and my queue was out the door and up the street, I waited 30 minutes never had to wait at all before, always straight in and out.It seems a lot of people around the country did not get to vote despite queing for hours, it will be interesting to see what happens

What I think will happen is they will be sadly out of luck.

Not good enough I know.

nobody should be prevented from voting in this country. The polling centres should have been kept open to allow them all to vote, then closed.
It was not the fault of the voters, they had queued in some cases for 2 hours.
Jobsworths again...we have too many of them in this country, sadly.

I managed to vote OK. I went at 11am and it seemed pretty busy and there did seem to be one table which was really busy (the one closest to the door), which I was in unfortunately I think I was in there about 15 minutes altogether but there only about 8 people ahead of me.

The problem with other areas and the polls being closed is, at what point do you say enough is enough. In theory people could just keep rolling up and joining the end of the line, do you close at midnight, open all night, keep going into the next day? I guess someone has to make the decision. You would hope the Electoral Comission will look into it and get ti right next timje, but that seems a tad unlikely.

There are rules set down
if your in with a ballot paper in your hand when the clock strikes 10pm you can still vote
otherwise better luck next time

there has to be rules
and the people on tv spouting should have had more people on

next time when turn out is low these same people will say too many people working its a waste of tax payers money

same with the grit issue this winter they should have bought more
life is great seen through rose tinted hindsight goggleslaugh :D

Polling stations have been geared up to deal with voting percentages of around 60%. Go over this and they become overloaded. I think the turn out this time was over 60%.

I went first thing and there was a short wait, mainly as they sorted themselves out. One wonders how many people who could have voted earlier left it to the last minute and so were caught out?

One soltion is to do what many countries do - have the vote on a Sunday, or extend the hours, midnight to midnight should cover everyone.
