More youngsters will be able to participate in sport outdoors and not just sat on their computers. Grassroots football in Silsden has been given a helping hand following the award of a £5,000 “Grow The Game” grant from the Football Foundation. The grant, which is spread over two years, will allow Silsden AFC Juniors to start new teams this season, an under 7 mixed team and a new girls under 12 team. The grant will help supply kits and balls as well as training and the required CRB checks. “Grow The Game” funding increases participation in football by helping clubs to provide opportunities for new players, or training volunteers to support new players and teams. The programme is delivered in partnership with all of the 46 County FA s and funded by The FA. The grants create a solid infrastructure of teams and newly-trained coaches in which new people can start playing the sport, rather than simply providing temporary activity sessions, which are then vulnerable to drops in participation once the programme ends. Barry Thomas, Commercial Manger at Silsden, said: “We have already started recruiting players, coaches and helpers. Working hand in glove with the Football Foundation is a great plus for a club like Silsden, as they offer and then deliver. "Grassroots football is where it all starts and this award will give the new teams a fantastic start. Being the first in the area to qualify for this award shows the trust put into our club by the West Riding County FA, for which we offer our grateful thanks”. Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “Grow The Game has become one of the Foundation’s most popular schemes. This additional funding provided by The FA is excellent news for grassroots clubs seeking to start new teams, and get their volunteer coaches qualified with FA coaching badges". www.nwcfl.com/news-articles.php?id=3085 |
