Average Speed Cameras requires number plate recognition which allows "them" to monitor where we are and where we are going. It has the added benefit you can get fined £60 and 3 points on your licence without a policeman in sight. Good eh!

Just another money making wease from this government without a clue. All this in the name of road safety with the hidden agenda of controlling the masses. angrysad :(sad :(angry

The frightening thing is though Fred that the other two parties are dafter than the ones we have in now!

Would you like to see either Cameron or Clegg in charge! I would suspect if the Libs get in we'll all be driving horses and carts!

Alan you have your policical point of view and I have mine.

Just remember when they talk about introducing average speed cameras, this government is introducing ID cards, monitoring everyones emails, introducing centralised records for medical records (and have just backed down from introducing a bill which would allow the records to be sold / given away to other agencies / foreign ccountries).

They have lost 25m social security records and numerous other data security related items. The 50mph limit is just another money making and spying scheme of this government and has nothing to do with road safety.

One problem I can see with this approach, is that it will do nothing about vehicles such as HGV's buses and other types of vehicle that should already be doing less that the national speed limit, but get away with even driving though speed cameras over there limit because the cameras can't distinguish between the different classes of vehicle.
Another big problem is overseas vehicle drivers of which according to the press are the main causes of accidents on British roads.
Instead of all this legislation why don't they just make it law that anyone who is involved in any accident, has to undergo advanced training and then take a more stringent test before they are again allowed back onto the road?

The government department did not have the correct proceedures in place and lost 25m records of data about us. The courier company may, or may not, have lost the disks but there was no record of the transit ie no signature at either end. The responsibility is with the government department. I would also question why they have to put this sort of data onto disks and send it by an internal courier system, haven't they got an secure internal data system?

this post has been edited 2 time(s)

i agree with the new 50mph if just limited to B and C roads and not A roads as doing a max of 50 on smaller roads has got to be more sensible.
