This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

after loseing 2 cars in the last 4 months
and the speed at which traffic comes over the canal bridge
in daylight never mind after dark
maybe it is time for traffic calming measures on keighley road

ive noticed in bingley east morton and elwwick/gilstead
there are bollards and pavement widenings

perhaps from the chip shop on the bridge to the snicket
there could be a gradual narrowing of the road and bollards to stop parking
(in this area since the road improvements there have been many parking fines for cars that have parked illegally anyway)

Having cars parking on the roads is a cheap form of traffic calming. If council measures were in place the council would have to pay, if a few cars are hit then it is the individual obstructing the highway by parking their car on it and the insurance company.

By all means introduce speed reduction methods, and at the same time get rid of parking on the roads to ensure the traffic flows. Flowing slower, but moving is better than stop start.

our cars were not obstructing the highway thankyou very much
1 was hit by a driver that fell asleep at the wheel

the other was at the weekend and was the massive accident caused by some twocing barstool from keighley (aledgedly)
on neither occasion was it anything to do with were the cars were parked but was to do with muppet drivers

i agree in the main street traffic sometimes comes to a standstill when 2 trucks are passing the parked cars

but the main issue is that very few cars adhere to the speed limit
maybe a speed cameras on the section from the bridge to the bypass might be better

ANY vehicle stopped for no good reason on the highway is causing an obstruction.

Parking for convenience is not classified as a good reason.

Parking is allowed by default, but technically a car parked on the highway is an obstruction.

It is elementary road traffic law.

It is definitely illegal to park where there are double lines in the centre of the road.

Where there are no signs about parking then it is usually ignored, until there is a problem. The PCSO should know this as the basic law on obstruction is one of the things they are taught.

yes but if you had bothered to check the area im talking about is not double white lines in the middle of the road

there isnt even double white lines up and over the bridge
the pcso stated that because its a blind summit on the bridge and theres 2 arrows telling you to get back across you cant park just down from the chip shop outside the first set of terraces

but as it shows in Peters link just in the bottom right there is a painted dont park here line at the snicket between the houses below that you can park
