If the rumour is true, that will shake things up a bit, and about time. Co-op is getting more and more expensive, needs some competition to sharpen it up.

Earlier this year there was a lady with a Lidl uniform on near the post office doing a survey for Lidl asking if people would shop there. My reply was yes definately, she told me that they has already bought a site just down below the petrol station. Just hope that it all goes ahead as the food in the Coop is so uninspiring, also very costly compared to most other supermarkets.

Just a thought... but didn't Abode have to stop trading because the site was for manufacturing and NOT retail. Probably a minor detail for a supermarket to get round.

(Abode were selling the furnishings as a factory shop in the small building they have just knocked down)

Has anyone actually shopped regularly at Lidl?

I do not mean the occasional look in for the exotic bargains, rather as a place to do ones day to day shopping?

Just curious, becasue from what I have seen I would not Lidl for regular shopping.

Now Booths, or Waitrose, that would be different.

If Lidl is anything like Aldi, then bring it on. Good quality at a very reasonable price.
Food (and petrol) are all about competition nearby, and people from Steeton would probably go to the site as well.
Time for the Co-op to feel the effect of competition, and provide better service and prices if it is to prosper.

yes lidl is similar to aldi and netto
its not really the sort of place for a full weeks shop
(there usually smaller stores with less variety than the big 4)
but cheap prices like aldi and netto

How can you compare lidl and aldi to netto? Netto's that place where they lock up the booze and sell veg which fit for the bin. Haven't all the Netto stores just been sold to Asda? THat has to be an improvement! laugh :D

Aldi and Lidl are roughly the same, small supermarkets which sell a limited range of good quality food with tempting, must have specials, for that job around the house, or when you go on holiday. happy :) Lidl have a few more branded products.

Please don't make this a "best supermarket" debate. The thread is about what will/you would like to see happen to the Belmont Silks warehouse site now they are demolishing the building.
