IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : MORE CARS THAN THE 50's....... |
|
| Keith Lemon |
I am only starting a new topic to feel important (and not get on the wrong side of Peter!) ...as pumbajunior said, not as many cars around in the 50's....places like silsden aren't able to cope with the massive increase in cars!! A big lump of space going spare is never going to be set aside as a "car park" is it?. The co=op in crosshills has a car park catering for around 40 cars, but come 5 o'clock you can't find a space yet there are only about 8 folk in the blumming co-op!!! forget the keighley road situation for a minute, silsden can't cope with all the parking needs especially now folk have 2 possibly 3 cars per household and nowhere to put them. If alan has found 1 to rent, good for him but it's hardly practical to expect us all to rent somewhere. aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh i feel better now |

well put i do park on the road on keighley road outside my house but not on the pavement and not obstructing traffic |

This idea might not be well received and might slow down the rate of new property development (maybe a good thing or maybe not), but if it was a requirement for at least one off-road parking space to be provided as part of every new house built, it might at least stop the problem getting any worse? |

Parking is looked at with planning already |

why not do what is done in other parts of the world, if you have nowhere off road to park your car, you cannot have one!!governments are trying to reduce reliance on cars so planners look at ways of incorporating that into their plans and one way is limit the spaces, unfortunately humans being as we are, are greedy and think it is their right to have as many cars as they like, even though they have nowhere to park. There are numerous families near me where mum, dad and all the kids have a car not unheard of for one house to have 5 cars, then when the boyfriends/girlfriends arrive there are even more.Something will have to give and I think a radical solution is required. |

BUT I would argue that there are plenty of places to park in Silsden without causing inconveience to others. The trouble is that people think they have a right to park immediately outside their houses. They haven't, and they should be prepared to walk to a parking place if they are able to do so! |

This is actually a place for the market and capitalism. If car parking on roads is forbidden because any car parked (as opposed to loading/unloading) is causing an obstruction then the following would happen. All those people (like me!!) who have garages full of junk would clear them out to get their car off the road. Local entrepreneurs would start providing parking facilities at monthly annual rates. As buses will be able to get around the cleared roads easier then bus services would start up and be used where they have not been really possible before. Local taxi firms would find it viable to join in with a mini-bus. As I understand it new house have to provide at least two of road parking spots. As one is likely to be the garage full of junk then a second vehicle ends up on the road. Our house has a short drive and our one and only car is off the road. The garage is full of junk and our second vehicles, motorcycle and bicycle. |

i guess most would say we dont even need a car let alone 2 i work down the valley at bingley but i work shifts so therefore evey other week i finish between 2-5am busses/trains dont start till at least 6am so i would say i need a car also we have a dog so you shouldnt leave them longer than a maximum of 6 hours so i come home at lunch to walk her very impracticle on the train impossible on a bus also HF works in leeds but not the center and in the past nearly lost her job before she had a car due to our wonderfull read crap public transport the government is saying that we should all ditch our cars and use public transport not an option its already like sardines |

Before everyone had cars public transport ran for much longer, sometimes through the night. Service follows the need. As for the dog, question whether you should have one if you do not have the time to give it the correct care. |

i do have the time to give it the correct care thank you very much |

My apologies - the reply came out more personal than I wished - the fact you use the car to check on the dog means you do care. The point I did not make very well was there are too many people who have animals who then find that they cannot give them the necessary time. |
