This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

A friends nephew Aidan McClellan aged 3 has recently been diagnosed with a fatal illness called DUCHENNE I had never heard of it before as I am sure you haven't.

There is no cure and nobody is trying to find one!

Duchenne is a catastropic progressive muscle wasting condition that can affect anyones child and it is not as rare as you think.

Children lose their ability to walk, breathe, eat and speak, eventually they die an agonising death often before they reach the age of 20 (Aidan has been given 14 months to live). Their minds are unaffected so they know what is coming.

The government need to FUND RESEARCH to find a CURE and put an end to this horrific condition.

Please help us PETITION THE GOVERNMENT for funding for RESEARCH into this condition and put it into the history books where it belongs.

100,000 signatures are needed before the Government will even consider funding this research

Many thanks

Everyone will be so sad for this little boy, his parents, their wider family and their friends.
Duchene Muscular Dystrophy is one of a group of genetic muscular conditions which severely affect the lives of the (mainly) boys unlucky enough to have them. However, there is research underway and also help and support available. If you Google muscular-dystrophy org campaign you will find the site of the charity which fund raises and reports on current research. It also supports newly diagnosed families with information, advice and contact with others who have been through the same experience. There is a help line.
I hope the family concerned will have received this same information when they got the news about the illness. But in case they didn't (and sometimes in such difficult circumstances it's very hard/impossible to take in what one is being told), I thought it was worth posting it. Please forgive me if you are already aware.
