Now why would I want to stand over a hole IN THE PARK with a spade, isn't there a mole man to do these things? I think you would have your work cut out judging by the number of mole hills. laugh :D

GG,open your wallet, get a handful of moth balls out of your wallet, then find where the mole run is,you do that by pressing down on the run with thumb and finger, when you come to the hollow space put some moth balls inside, you will then have no moles, end of

Moles do a brilliant job 'ploughing' and draining the soil. Silsden Park, with all its squelchy bits, can certainly use their services!

There is a mole and a multitude of moles making a mess - Alan I have used your link to report the problem.

That's my good deed done for the day.

For anyone that wants to stand in the park with a spade I'm sure they will be kept a amused watching mole hills. laugh :Dlaugh :D

anyone who thinks moles are good for any land/garden has never had to deal with the mess they leave, and the ongoing damage they cause. Killing them is the only answer, sadly.
We had them badly some years ago, and traps worked first time.

roosterman....have a look at "greenlanes" post above, he seems to to think they are a good thing....that's why I responded as I did...and I think most farmers/gardeners would be glad to see the back of them too.

Peter, these pictures clearly tell the story, but is anything being done to get rid of the moles? They are hungry with the cold weather, and things will get much worse than they already are. Are the local residents not worried? They should be.

Thanks for sharing your photos Peter. What a sight. I recently caught the bus into both Ilkley and Keighley, a great vantage point to survey the fields in both directions. Told t'other arf that the fields were literally full of mole hills, looks like it isn't just a problem here in Silsden. Never seen as many, as for being friends, I think not having had them in the garden at our previous home. The damage they do is horrendous, but what beautiful little creatures they are when you see them. A friend of mine years ago, her father was a farmer who was a brilliant mole catcher, he went round the other farms to catch them. We don't have moldy worps now, although I have seen a van with rodent and mole catcher on the livery.
Think Brad Met. will have their work cut out with this one.

Golden Oldie....do you think Bradford Met will do anything? Doubt it....will be the same as dog fouling...nothing will happen.
Things have to change with local government, maybe the upcoming shakeup caused by the recession will concentrate people's minds again.
What about giving the public value for money again? Private sector have to do it, or they go bust.
Back to the moles...why can't town councils have a budget to deal with this sort of thing? They could pay a local contractor to sort them out?

carliol, we will have to wait and see if BradMet sort out the mole problem, but from experience of reporting problems in the past (street lights not working etc) they have been very good. The problem I think comes from people thinking Bradford know about a problem but nobody bothers to tell them, they are not mind readers! sad :(

The point I'm trying to make is, talk about a local problem all you want but also report the problem to someone that can do something about it. happy :)

I believe we used to have our own municipal council with the responsibility of roads, cleaning etc. We gave all that away when we signed up to be part of Bradford Metropolitan Area. Good or bad you have to use the system to get things done.

I just think that Silsden has made great strides in recent years, with many improvements,it's a great place to be, and it's a shame when some things spoil it.

Great stride's?? As Peter has quite rightly said Silsden used to be responsible for itself and it was superb. But now.. a "few" kid's causing mayhem, no christmas light's (let's not go down the avenue of tree outside the con club), business's folding, no community spirit (hence xmas extravaganza done with), dog s**t everywhere, and endless debate's on here as to whether this is a nice "VILLAGE" to live in. Silsden is just a dormitory town now (town for those who insist) easy access to the train to Leeds and Bradford where folk work AND spend. My grandparent's would despair if they were still here. I'm 3rd generation cobbydaler and this village has gone down the pan!!

Theres only one way to shift em, and thats a mole catcher. Hope bradford met send one, or use a contractor. Airedale pest control in Silsden could fettle it.

dins...that's exactly the point I was trying to make, we have local contractors able to resolve this type of issue. But we have a long winded bureaucratic system, which means that Bradford Met have to be contacted, it will go through several people to make a decision, and if we are lucky someone will turn up to sort it.
The answer is that the town council should have a budget to sort out these local problems with local labour, and keep us all happy with a good result.
What is wrong with our local town council being trusted, with our own money by the way, to sort these things out?

trouble with this situation is,if somebody local did the job of mole catcher of is own back you would get some people walking passed saying, ere wot you doing, when you say your here to get rid of the moles, which are causing mayhem, the passer bys would be saying you murdering bar stewards,so you cant win
