This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Today I had a call from " Charles" with a non English accent. He claimed to be from the Telephone Preference Service. He said he was ringing about the recent increased volume of nuisance calls I had been receiving. He informed me that I was on a priority list and that a device could be fitted to my phone to maximise the possibility of nuisance silent calls ect. This is when I smelt a rat. It would cost me.I informed " Charles " that the TPS was a free service and it sounded he as if he had rung to con me. "Charles" no longer wished to continue the conversation.it is quite possible that if anyone had been subjected to disturbing calls and were caught at a vulnerable time they may be caught out on this one. Have made the TPS aware

We joined the TPS many years ago and it was excellent, but this last 12months we are back to about 6 junk calls per day. When I enquired I was told that now it only protects you against certain calls, and to stop all types of junk calls you now have to pay. I just put the phone down now.

The trouble is it is so cheap now to call from overseas and there are ways to route the call so it is even cheaper and appears to be from the UK and these companies operating from outside the UK can basically ignore the TPS.

Also calls that claim to be "surveys" are not affected by the TPS. So companies are calling and claiming to be doing a survey when really it is a sales call at the end of it.

I usually ask "why are you calling a number that's registered with the TPS? are you aware that you're breaking the law?" it's amazing how quick they hang up.
