IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. this post has been edited 1 time(s) dug these photos out after posting about exploring Silsden's tunnels. These date back to June 2004 when the culvert that runs under the green was replaced by digging the entire green up & laying new plastic tunnel sections. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

this post has been edited 4 time(s) Arh memories of messing around in the hole as a kid falling and slashing my hand in two on some glass! As I was told it was used as an old dump a while back it was full of random junk from the past.Luckily I was fine after about 6 months! If that's 2004 it must of been dug up around 1997/1998 as well maybe an inspection. |

it was a tip for many years, hence it's local nick-name as The Tip. We spent many hours as youngsters digging up old bottles, proper old green ones with marbles as stoppers. i don't remember it being dug up in the late 90's but the culvert was knackered for a long time before it was finally re-built so it is possible |

hat the tip was dug up in the late 90s so bfd could locate the tunnel they dug across from foster ave to bradley road with a jcb, the had to do it from that angle because of the depth. it was origionaly tipped after baron hothfield gave the old ghyll edge to silsden urban district council " to be filled and then levelled and a road and footpath to be laid from fardene st to bradley rd as an access road then be left as an open space forrecreational purposes" |
