IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

it seems from all the posts that people are generally fed up of the various messes left around...well why don't we organise a mass clean up and encourage businessess and the public, including children to clean up their act.The park, the beck etc etc, get everyone involved, old to young, even if they're just there to make the tea ( alan!!!)let's set a date and get the press on board to say silsden.net are having a clear up or clear out day!!

its suddenly gone quiet LOL

Thats a very good idea, like the golden days when villagers (ok, I know its a town) took responcibility for their village themselves.

i would be interested in partcipating/helping in whichever way i can.

Allie,

It's a great idea, but (playing devils advocate)would we get support from Bradford Met, It would require several skips, refuse bags etc, etc, etc, (unless Skippy could could provide the neccesary skips). Possibly we would also need some heavy lifting gear because some of those rocks in't beck look fairly heavy. As I see it if the village/town is doing the work of the council in maintaining our place, they should at least provide the neccesary kit.

skips?? how much rubbish is there?? come on. let's not think of the obstacles, i'm sure if we announce a big clean up, bfd could be persuaded to help.remember the more on board the better.if businessess could be persuaded to help...ie offers of tea/coffee or just a brush, with the publicity of the press,we could really make this a town effort.let's give silsden a clean sweep.
and don't forget it's silsden that made the mess NOT bfd met.
of course the do-gooders will want to get on board!!!

we could tell the youths that under all the rubble is a bottle of 'alcho-pop' and some hoop earings..... they will have the beck clear in a flash! no equipment required.

Of course I do 'skippy'.

But I was just thinking of a good excuse like everyone will do when it comes to volunteering in Silsden.

Or is it just me becoming old and cynical? happy :)

Sounds like a good idea!
But then you have to conside the dreaded health and safety, some one might break a finger nail then you will get sued for millions.
Last time the rocks were removed from the area where the ducks swim (Used to swim) the contractors had to place lots of straw bales across the wear so none of the silt that was disturbed went down the river.
Why don't we lobby the government to bring in American style chain gangs, then they could be usefully employed doing this sort of job, by the time they got back to their prison cells they would be to tired to cause any trouble, and who knows, just maybe when they were let out, they wouldn't want to be sent back, so they would go straight?
