IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : 200,000 New houses in Yorkshire ! |
|
| tetleydrinker |
I heard on the news that the government is considering the building of 200,000 in the next 9 or 10 years.. See the article in the Yorkshire Post www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/country-view/Plans-for-200000-new-homes.3182980.jp It makes you wonder how this will affect Silsden and other local communities. If it carries on like this the only place to keep farm animals will be on Cougar Park as it will probably be the last remaining Green space in the district. (Could be messy when they play football or rugby) Are they closing down the South of England and relocating it to Yorkshire ? What do the forum members think ? |

First of all there is very little grass growing at Cougar Park!!! Seriously now is the time to debate. Some of these houses will be built in Silsden without doubt. So how many are we prepared to take. What kind of housing is required.Where will they be built. And what improvements to Silsdens infrastructure is neccessary BEFORE the building starts. |

all these issues have been debated befor generally what happens is the plans get passed on the proviso that the developer puts a certain amount of money into the community then bradford spend it somewhere else |

All that seems to happen is plans either small scale or the larger blueprint are submitted and a group of people protest against it and generally things get passed whatever we say.I know a survey was done. But at the end of the day houses will be built so the people of Silsden need to come up with a plan for sustainable growth. It needs a pro active plan not reactive. |

I have just come across this report in the Yorkshire Post www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/Housing-demand--leaves-Yorkshire.3244287.jp Quote "This report will change the face of Yorkshire," she said. "What they are effectively asking us to do is build a settlement the size of Silsden every year." Remember the battle we had with Bradford to save Silsden from over-development. For those that have short memories, or are newcomers to the area just remember they wanted to build 1500 houses on Banklands. The conclusion by the inspector which threw much of the development out is here www.silsden.net/udp/silsdenUDP_RDDP_Inspectors_Report.htm But how safe do you think Silsden is from Government housing plans? |

I don't think Silsden is very safe at all, and it won't be long before we're joined at the hip, literally with Keighley,Steeton etc etc |

having attended a neighbourhood forum meeting recently where the main topic was the new development down sykes lane i was suprised to hear that silsden schools are under subscribed if that is so then why have both schools had major classroom extensions built over the past few years ,could that be a sign that theres a lot more development heading towards silsden |

Hothfield had a classroom extension built so that all the classrooms were in the main building. Before the new classrooms, two classes were in buildings away from the main building, and a third was set away from all the others. The extension also created extra office space. |
