Question?

What is the scrap metal in the beck ? A gate? A bar for the pigeons to sit on?

Will it EVER be finished???

I again agree, There will be a white elephant sat on it soon, do we really have to endure a 3rd summer looking at this pile of rubbish???? I thinks its clear that with all the rain there has been....a flood defence is clearly not required,
Come on, there is no shame in admitting it was the wrong decision, hold your hands up and just say "OK we got it wrong" and remove it before any more money is spent on it.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which takes place on 1-7 June. It celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK. It’s run by NCVO in partnership with Volunteer Development Scotland, Volunteer Now (Northern Ireland) and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

From showcasing the different volunteering roles on offer, taster sessions and team challenges with new partners, to volunteer recruitment events, awards ceremonies and launching new volunteering campaigns, events take place throughout the country.

Everyone is invited to join this national celebration of volunteers and volunteering, it’s up to you to decide exactly how you join in. Please do tell us if you’re planning an event.

This event covers Silsden and is an alternative to the "Lets have a go at volunteers" week which is held every 8 weeks in Silsden

according to minutes of the town council the silsden environmental group have submitted quotes form contractors to get the scheme finished as they have no money and the volunteers who were supposed to do the work can longer do it so they have asked silsden town council for some money . I think the council are in the process of considering the quotes. Make of that what you will

Bradford have placed a planning enforcement on this project so at the meeting last Thursday STC voted unanimously to await the outcome before deciding to spend any of our money on the project.

You must remember this was not an STC project in the first place.

Grant money was given to Silsden Envionmental Group to devise a plane to stop St Johns Street from flooding. To date none of our money has been spent and there is still some money left in the pot, but not enough to complete the project, or finish it.

The authority for the project to go ahead was given by the Environmental Agency after a survey carried out by them, the project did not require planning permission because the structure will not change the height of the wall or when it's finished the view. By placing a planning enforcement on project Bradford are effectively placing an enforcement on themselves as they own the land. What will the outcome be and how much will it cost us in council tax after Bradford have had multiple committee meeting on the subject...... ?????

So perhaps a better use of your time would be to ask questions of Bradford Council

About planning enforcement
The Enforcement Service is part of the Local Planning Authority which deals with complaints regarding alleged unauthorised developments/uses, the display of advertisements without consent, non-compliance with planning conditions and unauthorised works or demolition of listed buildings.

More information (with a contact link)
www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/the_environment/planning_service/about_planning_enforcement

St Johns street DOES flood from the beck and there is plenty of historical evidence to support this fact.

yes it does and 20 sand bags stored in the wall cavity and brought out and put in the gap when flood expected by weather forcast would of been about 5% of the cost so far.angryangrysad :(sad :(

... or complete the wall and have a permanent solution! It does seem like a crazy waste of money that could have been better spent on other things.

I wonder if the complaint was from someone with a grudge against the town(council)

No grudge against the town council. I believe that they do a sterling job.

It just looks so silly being unfinished.

what should be one of the most photogenic (and historic )parts of the town now look like an eyesore just an absolute mess . Goodness knows how planning permission was granted !!!! any way it should be undone and opened up the area returned to its original state as a weir - the flooding problem could be solved by the placement of a slues gate at the end of the fall.

I don't think planning permission was granted, this is why its now subject to planning enforcement order

Are you all missing something here?

Tell me if i’m wrong if Silsden Town Council have no involvement with this project why is it inscribed in steel onto the gate arm?

On a second point I doubt very much that the Environment Agency approached Silsden Environmental Group and said oy..wev’e done a survey on the beck you should get some free dosh from somewhere and block up that hole with a steel carbuncle. I would believe that it was directly initiated by the Environmental Group and it was they that likely approached the Agency..not the other way round!

The whole thing is barmy and should never have relied on outsourced Free labour. Colleges have targets to meet and can never fully commit, especially to a scheme like this.

Who runs the Environmental Group (AN) and who is on the TC ?

Lots of questions to be answered..I’m glad Bradford have put an enforcement notice on it. Our TC and Environmental Group need a wake up call.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing.

Enough, nothing more can be done at the moment. I have told you the facts and still you insist on speculation. sad :(
