There was a huge fight, around 20 people involved. The police were first called at around 9.30 and dispersed them but it all kicked off again later. The police were brilliant in both the way it was handled and in their response time.

It was a party that got out of control - and I think that alcohol played a large part of it!

Helicopter gave me fright of my life - listening to music with headphones on and windows open, music stopped just as it flew overhead, thought ET was visiting!

Whether they were Silsden lads or off cumdens, it doesn't really matter. They are all a bunch of mindless yobs. Pity the poor neighbours that had to put up with their loutish behaviour.

Well done to the police for tackling it so well.

not suprised, a lot of violence in silsden at night, you just never get to hear about it because a lot of people don't bother to involve the police for fear of reprisals.
It was gala day so no doubt some people used it as an excuse to drink all day. Regarding the other fight, how come only 4 people were arrested if 20 people were involved??

Please dont blame the Gala for violence,it wasnt Gala day on Friday and the worst night for fights was then, and Saturday night wasnt Gala day and trouble happened then too.Gala day is a good day for the community, bringing everyone back out onto the streets,a huge success.People unable to handle drink is the cause of violence and that can happen anyday of the year.angryangryangry

I am not blaming gala for violence, the post said that the trouble was last night at the robin which would make it sunday night.I think the gala is fantastic and I know a lot of hard work goes in to it, I am merely stating the fact that like you say, some people cannot handle their drink and some people use the gala as an excuse to drink all day.

When I first moved here I was told about the regular punch ups on Silsden Bridge between Silsden and Keighley lads.

All of this has been going on for centuries. It is certainly not a new phenomena, so the end of the world will not be next week.

Of course Silsden has already gone to the 'dogs', literally rather than euphemistically.wink ;)

so its ok then is it just because its been going on for centuries? I suspect the violence in silsden at the weekend was more to do with small minded people with old scores to settle who cannot handle their drink. Is silsden part of pubwatch and if so do the pubs put photos of the culprits up? I know this happens in some places, it is a good idea name and shame them

Having let a generation of young teens become hardened street binge drinkers there is no surprise they carry on the same way when they become pub drinkers. Its too late to stop them now but we can stop the next generation.

I'm sorry, but how can anyone with an ounce of sense, bring 2 world wars into the debate. They were young men who had volunteered, or been conscripted into the armed services. Leave them out of it.
The weekend events were just a bunch of boozed up idiots, out for trouble. As to whether this was a matter for speculation, innuendo, or just plain gossip is irrelevant. The majority of decent people do not want that kind of behaviour on their doorsteps.

I wouldn't take any notice ginjo, he's managed to offend most other groups including the disabled, and now those who gave their lives for freedom in this country.

Thankfully he is in a minority in this town and the country in general.

Well put Golden Oldie, and as for you bogtoss, you can drink all day every day for all I care but when it starts affecting other people then you deserve all the critism you get. I'm probably younger than you, I'm no do-gooder, and I also enjoy a drink but I don't destroy property, cause fights and disrupt the peace. Alan, you can add me to the list bogtoss has upset and I don't even know what section I would be classed under!

In your dreams. Even the Romans complained about the boozy Brits when they invaded, and so has every older generation with short memories ever since.

Apart from the general disruption caused by these drunken thugs.
I wonder how much taxpayers money it cost to send ten? police cars and the helicopter to sort them out.
Surely they had better things to do as well.

I would suggest you keep your comments to what you actually have some knowledge about bogtoss. If you managed to think for one moment, you would realise that Gloucester Avenue has an extremely broad range of inhabitants, ranging from elderly folk living on their own in the flats to small children - can you honestly believe it didn't affect them? Don't make assumptions about it not affecting any of us on this forum - you have no idea what you are talking about!
