This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

The fish pond was fed by a spring which could still flood part of the graveyard.
Where The Vicarage stands there used to be a Manor House belonging to The Jennings family. The fish pond must have been a size as it supplied fish to Skipton Castle and Bolton Priory.
The land, a barn and former pond was purchased in 1711 to convert the barn into a church for 10s. The cost of rebuilding the barn amounted to £66-13s-6d

Note the size of the tower, no clock and the spire is smaller.

They had to make do with a basic clock in those days in the form of a sun dial above the door.
Incidently, the pillars around the door were bought by the church warden, George Cockshott and rebuilt at his Cringles home. I wonder if they are still there.
The tower exetnsion and clock I think were added around 1895
