This morning I tried to leave Howden Road at 11.45am to find that a no right turn sign had been erected and the lights were stuck on red both ways AGAIN!!! No one working apparently taking any notice of the problems.

Having to go to Keighley, the traffic was backed up to the bypass, which could have caused a major accident.

Do they really care what the people have Silsden have had to tolerate?

Got to silsden at 09.00, lights were fine, by 09.30, they were obviously not working, so I rang police and streetwise (the company contracted to do the traffic management) - no answer at streetwise and police said they would pass it on to highways dept. No one turned up until 12!!! And then only a solitary pcso/ pc who appears to have commandeered one of the contractors! Still no sign of streetwise! Grrrrr!

When I rang at 11.45am, I was eventually told by Enterprise that it was reported by a member of the public at 10.00am. I am totally baffled why the men on site didn't apparently report it!

Think I must be missing something!

It's because nobody cares any more....how long to go before these people go away? I would say that the local motorists have carried this burden well, with a few mad exceptions, and courtesy has returned to our streets for a while. Maybe there is a positive side to all this?

Another day of laughter in Silsden! sad :(

No right turn at the end of Howden Road and buses and cars diverting past schools, what a joke!

Wake up UU this town has put up with enough!

Keep taking the pills alan! The gas liason officer (who thought of that job title?) tells me they want to be done by Friday but Sunday at latest - at least as far as kirkgate is concerned!

Does anyone know what the revised timescale plan is re the Howden Road section.

I live on Howden Road, and having to commute to Skipton and back each day, I have just about had enough of all this.

he promised that the markings were to go down the day the lights were removed or the next day - apparently this is not booked by the Bradford Council Highways so it should be a bit more reliable than if we left it up to them. Again - lets wait and see!

Has someone stolen a couple of paving stones from the pavement on the main street as there are a few black tarmac boxes now near the curb.
Should have gone with good old black tarmac!!!

what a shower!! perhaps if they actually did some work and had more than a handful of men things would progress more quickly.I went passed at 10-15 this morning, there were two men chatting, one of which was eating a sandwich.1 man in a digger with another watching and a man sat in a lorry doing not very much!!

Grrrrr!!! For the second day this week I have queued from the Steeton roundabout and crawled all the way up to the traffic lights in Silsden. There seems to be very little traffic waiting in the opposite direction - the queue ending opposite St James's both last night and again tonight. There wasn't any sign of a contractor or of anyone manning the lights before 5pm tonight. Last night I had to wait for at least 4 cars (surely they must have come through on red - but presumably the CCTV doesn't see this???)before I could pass and in that time the lights had turned red again!

Read the latest news that Peter has posted.

UU should be clear of Kirkgate this weekend, and then back again end of October.

So, hopefully, no traffic jams next week wink ;)

Having to queue on the dual carriageway and the roundabout is VERY DANGEROUS, and the fact there isn't a queue from the other direction suggests the traffic management is non existent. shocked 8O What happened to the manned traffic lights?

It needs to be sorted out now and not wait for the problem to just go away when they feel like packing up for a month.

Peter they are only going away for a month because Bradford Highways have told them too.

There are roadworks in North Yorks which I presume are the culvert earlier in this thread.

You are dodging the point I was making Alan. They should sort out the traffic problems immediately, queuing on the Silsden roundabout is DANGEROUS.

Sorry Peter, misunderstanding not dodging.

I can assure you I have had lots of discussions on these issues, including an extremely heated discussion with Enterprise on Sunday morning when the lights were not working and the traffic backed up to the roundabout.

UU and Bradford are in no doubt of my thoughts on these issues, including some that haven't been mentioned in these threads! wink ;)

They are not "going away for a month" though are they ?
As I understand it they are bringing all the misery and problems up Howden Road during that period.
Looking at the current state of the work on Kirkgate, I will be very surprised if they have vacated it before next week.

Maybe they meant by the end of next week.

Nope, only going away from Kirkgate for a month before coming back to finish it.

Meanwhile Howden Road etc gets the treatment!

No I don't drive around Silsden, I have legs and use them. I have no problem with shopping in Silsden but when you have to dodge traffic on the crossings and can't get to the ducks for railings(they are moving accross the road aren't they?) I'd rather not be in the town. Plus the novelty of having digger's in the village wore off a long time ago don't you think?

My boys are 3 and 18mnths so unfortunately diggers are always a novelty! happy :) I have to admit the traffic is quite frightening when trying to get across the zebra crossing at the Town Hall when no one wants to stop!

As anybody noticed the sign saying the canal bridge at Farhill will be closed for 5 days starting 21/09?
If Kirkgate is still blocked, then one diversion routes will be taken away, even more fun!
