A couple of months ago a chap scared the life out of a friend by wandering down Kirkgate with a snake round his neck.Someone has done the same at 4-45 today with what looked like a bl***y big lizard! Whilst it is the individuals perogative to own such bizarre creatures surely the rest of society ought to be able to go about there business without such frights? One poor chap walking past looked traumatised!Kid's could be very upset.

It wasn't a LITTLE one.And i think folk with a genuine phobia would dispute being "wusses". An experience like that could give someone a heart attack or induce serious shock

I saw it too. Looked different but no bigger than a small dog. Dogs have bigger teeth than lizards. Lizards tend to catch things with their tougne.

Looked friendly lizard to me. What is all the fuss about. I bet it does not cr*p on the pavement.

That depends on your interpretation of friendly! I've been told today that it was in the park on Sunday and gave a dog a good hiding with it's tail. What if that had been a toddler or young kid?And before someone say's a dog could upset the lizard,i'm assured it did not!And everyone is used to seeing a dog in the park on in the street not a bl***y lizard. As for where it crap's i for one don't give a damn.It ought to be in it's owner's home and nowhere else!!

strange discussion this.... are you saying that because people are'nt used to seeing something it should be kept locked up at home??
yes people may have been scared, but that does not give them the right to say I am scared, therefore you must stay at home...or do you suggest he puts an ad in the paper every time he takes it out for a walk?
the same could be said for alot of things..the guy that walks his ferrets for instance....or do you think I should stay locked up at home if I have a terrible deformity in case I frighten people?
I saw him at the gala on sunday, very pleasant chap, beautiful monitor lizard, nice to see it getting out and not locked up in a cage24/7
PC gone mad,leave him alone.

Pumba.I have been told that the chap allegedly DOES have a crocodile. However it seem's from some of these post's we should all feel free to wander around with whatever the hell we like.A friend of mine told me a few month's ago about an acquaintance who owned a python. She(for some unknown reason)took it to bed with her, where it curled up.She became concerned about it's health when it began to lay full length of the bed!Thankfully she saw the vet who confiscated the object as it was measuring her up ready to eat her!!Harmless creature's my a**e

well if you want to ban harmfull animals...
then dogs better be banned as pets cause even the nicest dog 'could' bite a person, young child, baby.
also dogs poo on the pavement which some people dont clean up, (pumbajunior this is not aimed at you as I know you clear up) can cause blindness.

ferrets, walked theough silsden have a nasty bite, personal experiance. so should we ban them?

as long as the guy is careful then where is the problem? I saw him at the Gala and thought it looked quite nice.

toxocariasis,

causes partial blindness in up to 100 children every year.
Toxocariasis is an infestation of humans, usually children, with the larvae of Toxocara canis, a small threadlike worm that resides in a dog's intestine

nasty stuff.

I have no doubt there are many people who thought it looked quite nice. But the fact still remains that we're talking about the "sight" of these thing's.Of course you can be bitten by anything but perhaps if you could experience the sheer gut wrenching terror that someone with a phobia feels when faced with a snake/lizard you may understand.

toxocariasis

Quite right. One of the reasons that local authorities have the authority for dog owners who do not clean up after them.

When it was being debated in parliament the 'doggy love' brigade were trying to defend their pooches. As it was one MP, a Tory, had a young daughter blinded in one eye becasue of dog poo. Rather trumped their arguments at the time.

As this thread has now got back to "basics" I will close it.

Just look out for monitor lizards, which probably need walking just as much as your dog, and like dogs will lash out when they feel threatened.
