Well it's nearly Wednesday folks, I've baked the cakes and made the mince pies to warm up, all washed down with a glass of red wine! Hope you all have a good evening with the kirkgate crew! You know who you are. |

Oh sadly, no one had told Projeto Gallery that this was happening, and I am unable to get child care for my daughter at late notice. So Projeto Gallery will not be open.
How were we to know about the event with no advertising? How will the locals know about it?? |

I'm not sure the shops are committed to giving the residents of Silsden a Christmas shopping experience!
When I was photographing the Christmas lights (see front page), it struck me that there were very, very, few shops that had made the effort to decorate their windows. I know the shops have had a bad time this year, with the economic climate and the gas works, but it's not that difficult to put a few lights up is it?
I have been asked a few times if there is anything happening on the 9th, let me know and I will put the details on the website, but there doesn't seem to be anyone organising it - just rumours. |

Me too ginjo, not in the clique
I am a regular customer at Dogsbody (brilliant shop) and asked them about it. Nobody has bothered to ask them, yet they have supported every event in the past, sad innit |

What's sad is having a street fair instead of the original extravaganza in the first place! None of the shop at bottom end of kirkgate knew anything about that until the last minute so don't have a go at them when all they're trying to do is have a little get together for there customers! In anycase anybody is more than welcome to attend, it hasn't been advertised because of the time scale, they just assumed it would be extravaganza as normal. |

I don't think thats quite true is it? The market was widely advertised. Yes it was a little upsetting that they had to change/cancel due to lack of suport from the shop keepers. But at least they have tried to do something for the town and include everyone. It's a shame you can't please everyone |

Go crying to peter do you when someone has a go at you?! Different when your the one dishing out unsavoury comments though isn't it! You know your problem don't you? You can't stand the thought that other shopkeepers in the village are doing something for themselves as apposed to being told what they can and can't do by your lot, and that your not a part of it! Shame the divide has being caused though, now I wonder why that happened? |

I think I will let these last posts stay.... hey guys kiss and make up. Shouldn't we all be talking to each other and perhaps the shop keepers should be talking to each other. How can you have a late night shopping evening if nobody knows about it? |

It happened because shops on kirkgate where not informad that extravaganza night wasn't happening, at least my family member wasn't! Therefora as a business they felt very upset and aggrieved by it all and felt they had no other option but to let tonight happen anyway, through being asked by their customers, who I have to add were also very dissapointed. |

Hi peter, just to correct you on one thing, its not for shopping, it's to give to the customers a little gesture for there superb support throughout the year. _________________

I've genuinely absolutely no idea!
The only 'lot' I have anything to do with are the town council and school governors and both of them have nothing whatsoever to do with the Christmas Fair or Extravaganza.
Though, wait a minute, I am in the RSPB, could it be them? |

it would appear that rugrat is getting their wires crossed over the extravaganza, it was first started by the old shopkeepers group many many years ago, due to lack of support back then it stopped .then in the early part of 2000, buissnes watch was formed after a weekend of mindless vandalism down the main st, i was asked by david thornton and john lohan as a town councilor to join them and afew shopkeepers to see if we could get cctv installed in the main st, buisness watch as a fundraiser started up the extravaganza night again, after 2 years they too were falling apart and the gala committee agreed to help, then after 2 yrs the shopkeepers couldnt be bothered to open apart from the odd few, the schools and the public loved the night . as a gala committee we thought our time would be better spent trying to do something else, hence the market on the 29 nov. i take issue with the comment about the shops at the bottom end of silsden not knowing anything about the market, i was asked by a large no of shopkeepers about times and who else was oppening, so please all have a good night tonight and enjoy yourselves. rugrat i hope this helps to clear your misguidence. |

Goodness me!! What an excellent evening! A great time was had,I must admit I wasn't expecting those numbers, a massive thanks to everybody who attended,it was great to see people chatting in the shop about silsden past etc! Hadn't realized people were so passionate about our town, people who didn't even know each other mingling,it was so warming, so in all a fabulous time, perfect weather and everyone full of Christmas joy !!! Happy days! Humbug? Don't know the meaning of the word . |
