IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Oops - there goes the Silsden pessimism again....! There is a pot of money and it won't come our way without pushing for it. STC and our local councillors should be banging the drum, raising petitions and even taking some positive action as the Addingham council did back in 1990 , to make sure we get our share on the cake. Just look at all the moans we have had on this topic over the last 2 years (& longer) - all that energy needs directing into a big campaign for the by-pass we nee to rescue our town. |

Has a survey ever been done to work out how much through traffic there is in Silsden? Because bypasses are only needed for places on long-distance routes with a large amount of through traffic. On that basis, Bingley, Draughton, Addingham, Skipton and Settle all qualify. Does Silsden? Is there enough traffic to Addingham one way and Steeton the other to make a bypass necessary, or is most of Silsden's traffic local? |

Well that got you going, but did you actually read the article on the link I posted? quoteWell we certainly qualify but when I was looking for information on the £1b / year handout I also noted Saltaire is in line for a bypass and there are plans in place. Keighley Ings wide widening scheme is probably just waiting for funds. As far as I am aware there are no plans for a Silsden bypass, just wishful thinking and no survey or plans AND NO FUNDS AVAILABLE. We will have to share the pot with the rest of the country, and if you think we have got problems you should experience driving through the small villages around London and the south! Until there is a plan in place we are at the bottom of the heap. As far as traffic surveys are concerned, lots have been done. Just look at the planning applications for any of the large development proposals which have been put forward lately. You could look at the plans for the Belton Road project - 219 houses with the only access onto Belton Road / Keighley Road. The Riverside planning application which is for 125 houses (about) which will eventually be a potential total of 450 houses with access only onto Keighley Road. Yes, there is a need for a bypass and the Inspector for the UDP report in 2005 stated the bypass should be built before any more houses were built. Bradford want the developers to pay for the bypass, this would be a piecemeal approach and would they pay for a bridge across the canal? |

As with most things, there are winners AND losers, how much of the trade done by businesses in Silsden come from passing vehicles? All that would just sail on by. |
