Cars parked all over the place, an accident at the gates and general chaos.
Why don't sporting types like walking?
PLEASE SORT IT OUT |

Cars were better parked than last week when I checked at 10-50am. There was no double parking at that time on Keighley Road. There was an accident last night involving an alledged drink driver, not connected with any of this mornings footballers. The fact that the car was blocking the entrance to the car park so we had to close the car park. This meant that extra cars were parked on the road. Half the players play for away teams and we can not expect them to walk to games when many of the teams come from places like Bradford. |

At 9.30am cars were queueing behind a car trying to get into the Silsden AFC car park, the entrance was blocked by a car parked in the entrance.
At 11.30am there was a car parked on the pavement opposite the entrance and one stopped going into Silsden just past the gateway to Silsden area.
Why do cars have to park between the Silsden AFC gate and the restricted width part of the road, because they can, they are late for the match, can't be bothered to find a place to park te car, can't be bothered to walk?
Not A Silsden AFC steward in sight, at either time. At any other event the organisation provide traffic management, why is it so absent on Sundays on Keighley Road?
I go along this road at this time every Sunday and during the football season it is always the same problems. Please do something about it before someone is injured. |

How typical that people looking in can never see the work done by the people looking out. On a Sunday Silsden Juniors offer the chance of over 200 young players to play at Keighley road, the whole lot run by volunteers. The same volunteers who give up one or two nights a week to train the players, go to monthly club meetings and league meetings. Silsden juniors were turned down for a grant from the police from the unclaimed stolen goods auctions, why, because the crime rate was so low in Silsden, why, because clubs like the football club, and all the other volunteer run clubs and associations run by volunteers keep the kids off the streets. Apologies for those who`s lives are so busy they can not wait a few minutes, just give a thought to the ones who can, and do. |

The football club does excellent work keeping the youth of Silsden off the streets, and I applaud your efforts and commitment to the cause, BUT this does not absolve the clubs responsibility of making sure visiting players and family park responsibly on Keighley Road.
Are all the club officials too busy to see how people park on Keighley Road when you have matches at home? Perhaps a quiet word to those visitors that park on the pavement, and on blind corners, would be appreciated before they get a ticket.
This is a busy road but at times a wide road is reduced to 'running the gauntlet'.

I go along this road at this time every Sunday and during the football season it is always the same problems. Please do something about it before someone is injured. Team managers arrive at 9-30 for 10am ko. I am guessing that a manager has turned up maybe with kit for a whole team and had to drop the kit off when finding the gate closed because of the crashed car.
I volunteer at the football. That means I "do" so that others can play football. The club can not afford to pay me for my time and if they offered I would turn it down. My alarm goes off every Sunday Morning at 6-45am and I am at the ground for 7-30am. I was there most of the time until after 12pm.I appreciate you may have seen these problems and may in future if you travel at the same time every Sunday as it is start/finish times. For the majority of the morning there was no problem. The problems are nothing if compared to school mornings if you try and get out of Howden Road and/or travel up Aire View. I wouldnt expect Parents to take up "stewarding" the roads. We are a not for profit club not Manchester United so if someone wants to volunteer to try and help out they are welcome.Dont forget the Police put out cones FOR these mega rich Premier League clubs.
We have a few cones from West Yorkshire Police that we put out but people move them. WE have asked the council for yellow lines on the opposite side of the road and around the entrance but they do not have any money.Dont forget these cones have no legal status when we put them out. We have put signs on roadside walls(even though we legally shouldn't) asking people not to park. We ask all managers to inform parents about parking. We do arrange volunteers for our big tournament when we get 1,000+ children playing but legally they can only offer advice on public highways.
If someone wants to come down on a Sunday and help we can arrange a free CRB check and offer hot drinks and a bacon sandwich.
I shall follow this up with an e-mail but this is an open offer to Coun Naylor to come down on a Sunday to discuss Bradford Council providing yellow lines.

This issue was highlighted last week and a chain of e mails with action points were raised at AFC to managers of the opposition. Last week was worse the car boot was on, this week an abandoned car causes chaos which incidentally has now been taken away and is dumped up Belton Rd so I gather the local Police haven't a clue whats going on prob don't even now about it. As for the small blue car parked just past the blue balls Ramblers nothing to do with football |

Incidently can anyone tell me what the triangle markings mean between the ground entrance and the traffic island? |

Passionate points from both sides so maybe now a little patience from the general public, and as much information to away clubs from the football managers. We off course can not speak for the car booters, Circus, ramblers, caravaners, drunk drivers and general car traffic. |

This is supposed to be a community working together to offer facilities for everybody, why is there so many people quick to criticise the hardwork that Silsden Football club do for the community. We advise the leagues at the beginning of the season that we have parking facilities within the ground, but we cant accommodate all cars, and we advise them that they should not double park on the main Keighey Road. Bearing in mind we have 21 teams that play on a Sunday morning albeit not at the same time, so as you can appreciate it there will be a large amount of cars on a Sunday morning/afternoon at Silsden AFC. The nearest teams are from Keighley and the furthest away are from the Leeds area, so really you cant expect them to walk. |

Robocop, I don't think anyone is criticising the hard work done by anyone. What is being asked for is more traffic/parking management of supporters/teams vehicles.
Has anyone at the club approached the PCSOs to see if they could be present for an hour or two? In my experience of stewarding large events it's surprising how sensibly people will park if they see some kind of police presence, or even just some in a high vis jacket walking around looking official. |

Yes we had a meeting with the police. Yes we advise teams/managers/players. We can only advise as we have no legal powers on the public highway. You have no idea how frustrating it is when you put cones out at the crack of dawn only to find them moved an hour later. I even found a car with its front wheel on top of a cone. The police said they do not have the manpower to spare but let us borrow some cones. They are even cutting back at league grounds having lost a legal challange by Leeds United who recovered money paid by the club for policing outside the ground |

When we look at the way people park on Skipton Road, Bolton Road, Elliot Street and the Kirgate and other places why are we so quick to voice our anger at the sports club. |

nothing to do with sports club its idiot drivers and theres plenty about,if they observe the road ahead and SLOW down there would be no problem, its drivers who think that as they pay road tax they have a god given right to do and go as and when they like, accidents are caused by speed if going slow enough for the conditions they would stop even if someone or something came out in front of them,40 0r 30 mph is a max speed not the god given speed so if drivers drive at a safe speed there would`nt be any accidents!!!!!! its bad drivers that blame parked cars pink elephants etc SLOW down drive safe and chill out!!!???. |

Update. Just come away from the ground and I am pleased to report there are no traffic/parking issues on Keighley Road this morning. Some of the other parking might need sorting but the main road is clear |

An encouraging email from Bradmets Senior Traffic Engineer. We first stated communicating about the parking in July 2010 and have been pro active ever since.
Dear Silsden AFC
I have now revisited the site to investigate your latest request. I confirm that I would be happy to adjust the keep clear white line and make arrangements for it to be lengthened by an additional 5 metres, towards the Silsden direction.
As you are aware the white line has already previously been extended towards Steeton and I am afraid that I am not able to extend this line any further in this direction. As stated previously, current regulations will only allow us to put a keep clear white line directly outside the car park entrance/drop crossing and from previous experience, we have found that the longer a keep clear white line is, the less effective it is at preventing parked vehicles parking on it.
Finally, I confirm that the Highway Authority will consider the request for yellow lines on the opposite side of the road, and it will be added to the list of requests for Traffic Regulation Orders for yellow lines.
This list is considered each financial year by Keighley Area Committee, however we would like to point out at this stage, there is no guarantee that this location will be included in next years financial programme, as the Committee Members have only a limited amount of funding and therefore cannot select all the schemes on the list to be progressed. Regards |
