IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. been through today as you are allowed access to local houses and farms and daughters farm is on the diversion ,was talking to the lads on traffic control and thet said no work has been done yet and if it started now it certainly would`nt be done by may 7th never mind march 7th,so not looking good, they where looking at opening it with no work doing but due to the recent rain the landslide is moving again. ![]() ![]() |

They must be telling huge porkies to the press then as it says they have made good progress and are on time with the original work, but more work is required at that is why the delay until March 7th.... |

the link to the North Yorkshire site clearly explains all this! The initial work is a TEMPORARY solution - the pictures of work done is clearly there. I imagine, from what they say there, that the road will be opened around that time (although i am sure the rain over the weekend will have slowed things down again), and they will then have another go at a permanent or longer lasting fix. I'd rather take the detour for 2 years than have tonnes of earth descend on some poor soul! |

THE trans-Pennine route between Skipton and Harrogate at Kex Gill - closed fearing a land slip - is to be reopened on Saturday. North Yorkshire County Council says good progress on drainage and stabilisation works had been made since the A59 was closed on January 5. Contractors have worked seven days a week to finish the work which has caused widespread disruption and put miles on the journey between Skipton and Harrogate. Share article It was expected the the road would be closed until March. “We are delighted to be able to open the road this weekend,” said County Councillor Don Mackenzie, North Yorkshire’s executive member for highways. |
