It's probably old news to many people, but I had to dial an 0800 number from my mobile the other day. Unlike land lines, these numbers are charged at anything between 10p and 50p per minute. I run an Apple iPhone. I found out, after the event, that if you go into iTunes, required to operate an Apple product, you can download an 0800 Wizard. On looking into it, I found similar wizards for 0870, 0845, 0844 numbers. There are also wizards for 0900 numbers. The majority of the wizards are free to download. The use of these wizards make the numbers free to use from your mobile, as part of your calls. I don't know how it would affect pay as you go users. |

They're free to download, BUT don't work unless you buy call credit using an in-app purchase, so it's cheaper but nowhere near free. If you want to have a decent chance of calling an 08 or possibly 09 number free on a mobile, look it up on www.saynoto0870.com/ (which offers a huge number of landline numbers which replace the 08, 09 or 05 numbers), or look for a number listed for access to whatever you're after from outside the UK (just take the 0044 off, and put a 0 at the beginning) |
