We were nearly in a crash today we were coming back from cow and calf rocks today
just coming up the dual carrigeway section up the hill to adingham overtaking a van on the long straight section coming towards us overtaking down hill is some (i will be polite because im still livid at the stupidty) retired gentleman overtaking cars coming downhill (trying to overtake about 8 cars in a line heading straight for me and the audi behind that is also trying to overtake the van)
did he indicate to try and pull back in line NO did he look like he had a carbon foot print appearing in his romper suit like we and the audi n van drivers did NO i could not believe it luckily i was just about at the right momement to possibly pull in but ended up viciously cutting up the van driver the audi stamped on the brakes and dived in behind the van i was obsolutely fuming with rage at this *?$&^%£" gits incompetance shame i didnt get his reg number but i was trying not to have a 120mph head on collision |

Stay lucky pumbajunior!! Sounds like a close one!
Was he just blind (not seeing you coming towards him with your overtaking indicator going and no doubt headlights flashing) or do you think he thought it was a dual carriageway and you were in a different lane?
There really are some idiots on the roads. Had I been your van driver I would've been hitting the brakes to give you space to get well away from that guy.
(He probably parks on the pavement too... ) |

dunno about parking on the pavement
yes i think he was braking to give room otherwise there would have been a 10 car pile up unfortunately he had to be carefull of the audi trying to pull back in we were all very lucky |

It takes two to tango! When I learnt to drive, many years ago, I was taught that if there was a need for anything to be done I should do it myself, not rely on the other driver to do anything, also I was told by my father to treat every other driver as a raving idiot who is intent on killing me. Always remember there is no point in being DEAD right. |

now then, this is a subject close to my heart.there used to be a 'gentleman's agreement (not in the highway code, but i stand to be corrected on this), that when two vehicles approaching each other at a point where there is a narrowing of the road or an obstruction on a slope or hill.that the vehicle coming down would stop and let the vehicle travelling upwards continue it's progress for obvious reasons. so on this basis,if anyone travels regularly DOWN skipton road or anywhere else for that matter.think about how easy it is for you to stop and let the vehicle travelling UPWARDS continue i'ts progress.off my chest now. wait for someone to have a beef about that one. |

no Bobber i was brought up with the same ideas (traffic going uphill has priority) but people who drive like that these days are few and far between
also the nicety of if someone lets you through/out of a junction give them a thankyou wave |

I must be thick because i actually thought it was in the highway code. It makes more sense to let the vehicle driving up the hill to continue. These days I don't think there is anything "gentlemanly" about driving. I could go on all night about the idiots I meet daily on my journey too and from Otley not to mention those prats that drive around by the schools. Why do drivers think indicators are only for other drivers? Pedestrians would like to know where the cars are going too. As for the addingham bypass, the first lane coming up the hill is a crawler lane isn't it? for those vehicle unable to reach the correct speed. The second being for those cars able to get past them. The road markings on the side coming down don't they mean overtaking is allowed if safe to do so? Retest the over 70's (now that is a whole new argument)!!! Rant over for now..... |

More muppets on way to skipton today. If people want to have a nice scenic drive to skipton, travelling at barely 40mph, why don't they catch a flaming bus? Then they could safely point out the lovely scenery without causing disruptions to the poor people trying to get to the supermarket. And another thing, when the driver is talking to the passengers in the car why do they feel the need to turn to them and not watch the road.. Oh and while we are on it and they are using a roundabout why can't they use their indicators? they if they didn't know are so you can let other drivers know where you are going, you great big donkey....yes you in the silver suzuki vitara!!!
Can you tell I had a great trip to morrisons this morning? any wonder i need a drink now? |

didn't think we would agree about owt shazza, but i'm with you all the way on this one. fact is though,if they're doing between 30 and 40 in a 50 limit or 30 in a forty limit they're not, strictly speeking, breaking the law. they're just dumb and they wind us up like (can't say the 'f' word on this forum) |

If they're doing 30 in a 50 limit, could they be failing to make necessary progress? |

The minimum speed limit on a Motorway is 40 MPH so folk are perfectly entitled to do 30 MPH on a minor road. The trouble is nowadays you're likely to get some mindless moron manoever their Scierra two inches from your rear bumper whingeing that you're hampering their vitally important progress if you do. |
