What looked like spotlights shining from above and down onto the clouds were visible over Silsden, constantly, for at least an hour last night between 22.00 and 23.00. Might have been longer but that's when I was watching them. The "spotlights" were describing clockwise and counter-clockwise circles. They didn't penetrate the clouds but were visible above them. They could be seen in the eastern sky, looking approximately between the Nab and Rivock Edge. Two of them were prominent and a third one, possibly a fourth one more feint. They were of a brightness such that anyone outside in Silsden or driving around the area would have difficulty missing seeing them. I know that this is the shooting star season and I have witnessed them in previous years but these didn't look anything like. Did anyone else see them? Does anyone know what they were?

Dogcatcher, I'll be interested in Gez's further comments but I'm still of the opinion that the source of the light was above the clouds. No "beams" of light from the ground were visible, just the spots of light themselves.

Yeah, I watched this too. The lights were following a perfect circular orbit and were deffo above the clouds. There was also no sound.

Would be interested to know what they were.

Sorry to spoil the fun but the answer is much more mundane, there was a concert taking place on the Grove in Ilkley they had a light show which included the two spotlights roaming around the sky.
The Police got a lot of call about them!

Cobbydale Fruits, your two posts refer to the shooting-star activity, which I commented on in my original post. Saturday night's visible activity wasn't like that.

I reckon that Grandad's post carries most credence. In fact I don't doubt it at all.
