IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : A629 closed on Saturday 5th July? |
|
| Peter |
There are lots of signs put up on the A629 between here and Kildwick stating the dual carriageway will be closed on the Saturday!!!!!!!! Surely this is incorrect? Sunday yes but Saturday no. |

Just driven back from skipton, there are signs along road saying same. |

I think it would be wise not to expect to drive anywhere on the Saturday or Sunday of the Tour..... |

I think it is from sat evening @ 7pm that the closer takes place.. |

why?? surely 5am on sunday morning is early enough.I thought that when the roads were closed , local access would still be available(obviously not right up to the time of the race)The whole thing is quite ridiculous when you think about the cost and the massive inconvenience and loss of business etc.Are we going to make loads of money from it, I think not, a lot of people who might normally visit the area will be put off coming. |

Brad met site says sunday only for the 629 www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/leisure_and_culture/sports_and_leisure/tour_de_france/tdf_2014-proposed_road_closures.htm |

As someone who has been a regular attender at closed-road motorsport events in Ireland and the Isle of Man, it strikes me that the authorities are making rather heavy weather of Le Tour. |

As far as I know they are running a sprint down the bypass ( from le tour web site) so need to erect gantries for the timing posts All very exciting |

There is no time for the road closure, just the date Sat 5 July. There is no mention of it being closed on Sunday the 6th when the Steeton round about will definitely be closed. It has to be a c***up |

Just been to Skipton. The Tour de France Road closed signs for Sat July 5th start at the Silsden roundabout and are regularly repeated all along the A629 to Skipton. So this looks like the work of North Yorkshire in anticipation of the TdF going through Skipton on the Saturday. So nothing to do with Brad Met. Agree it does seem odd as it will block Aire Valley traffic to and from The Lakes & M6 causing considerable inconvenience to non TdF travel |

The North Yorkshire website (www.northyorks.gov.uk/article/28804/Stage-one-road-closures-list) doesn't mention the A629 at all on either day. The 'official' tour road closures page (letour.yorkshire.com/the-grand-d%C3%A9part-2014/road-closures) appears to be broken... ![]() quoteThere is no time for the road closure, just the date Sat 5 July. The Access bus driver told us last Saturday that they won't be coming for us on Sat 5th July. |

Went through Skipton yesterday and Im thinking someone has made a huge cock-up because the signs round town are saying the roads are shut Sunday but the race is through there on Saturday. Think someone put right signs on wrong roads?? |

I have just spoken to Bradford Council and they have informed me they have made a mistake with the signs and they are closing the A629 on 6th July but fully open on the 5th July, they are going to be changing the signs soon. Good work Bradford Council ! |

Bradford seem to have an ongoing problem with road signs, back in the early eighties they put a "End of dual carriageway sign" at the top end of North St where it narrows at Town Head, instead of "Road narrows at both sides" And it is us who have to pay for this incompetence! |
