I have looked at this website before, some of the inspections took place 2 years ago so I cannot understand why somewhere with a poor hygene rating is still serving food.Surely the inspectors would visit on a regular basis to see whether things have improved and if so why don't they say so on their website.

Will be giving Crazy Chef a miss and would advise everyone else to do so until they get their act together!

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

Its not the establishments fault that inspections are out of date - the food hygiene people are terribly understaffed - they may well have improved since the rating (and in fact will have had to improve to continue trading) but will not get rerated until next inspection. The system is flawed in my opinion - it relies heavily on filling the paperwork in as proof of hygiene and as for the star rating! it should be Excellent or Fail - no inbetween! Personally, i have 4 stars and they are not hard to achieve if you listen to your inspector, but i could equally have 1 star and not fill in the paperwork plus a few other minor points and be just as safe! BUT happy to acccept that 4 stars is almost always better than 0 or 1!!!!

I stopped going when they came for some buckets of water one week, and then to borrow the microwave the next.

Believe it or not that is 100% true!!!!

These posts are not helpful to local businesses when they are struggling to survive. sad :( The star system is flawed at best when you can be marked down for paperwork - the reader assumes a poor star rating is because of hygiene.

There are no dates when the inspections took place and no real accountability.

Remember Danny's the butcher, he closed soon after star ratings were published in the Keighley News. He didn't close because of poor hygiene but because of lack of customers caused by a perceived lack of hygiene/stars. sad :(

An establishment which serves food is either safe (hygienic) or it isn't, if it isn't then it should be closed immediately.

the star ratings are given for various things one of which is hygene and you can see qite clearly on each establishment whether they failed on hygene, poor management etc. Also the dates of inspections are stated on the rating, lazeeze was last rated in 2007 so if it got poor for hygene then one would hope that they have improved otherwise surley they would be shut down.Mind you the place in Ilkley was not even registered with the council so it never got inspected and god knows how many people were ill

ginjo, I missed the date. The website is poorly designed, but I still think the system is flawed and misleading. What is the reasoning behind making it all public without showing the reports to back it up, it looks like they just want to put people out of business.

Bogtoss, you may be right about Danny's. We gave up going in there because it didn't sell the meat we wanted to buy. It still closed very quickly after the report came out on the Keighley News so perhaps that was the final nail in the coffin.

It would be a good site if updated at least once a year and showed the previous years report so you couls see any improvement.

I do remember checking scores on the doors a few years ago (around Christmas 2007 when it first launched) and Crazy Chef had 3 stars. We used to get our takeaways from them and had done for many years. They were inspected in November last year from memory?? If light of the drop in standards (zero stars is quite a drop) we no longer get food from Crazy Chef. The business has a responsibility to ensure all paper work is up to date as well as the actual hygiene, food prep, staff hygiene training and buildings complience side of things. If a business fails on the paper work and gets a low star rating for this then what else are they not doing correctly? If they know they will get marked down for not labelling food stuffs correctly or keeping a correct inventory of foods stored in the freezers and fridges so they know when things must be used by, then in my opinion they need to be marked down until they realise that its a business and they (potentially) are playing with customers health. A bad case of stomach pains and all that come with it is one thing wink ;) but E-Coli is another and its a killer, a very painful one at that! Very easy to introduce into the food through uncooked chicken and in fact any uncooked meat. I honestly think that a business has a duty to its customers to make sure they are doing everything possible to comply with ALL hygiene laws. We get our takeaways from 'Curry House' in Keighley. They deliver, are very nice and they have 4 stars happy :)

Sorry about the long post, bedtime reading!!
