jimmy we at the gala committee decided not to do the extravaganza due to the lack of support from some of the shopkeepers. this year as you know we are trying something different in the market. with it being on the sun it does not interfere with the shopping week for our struggling shopkeepers, hopefully they will take advantage of the people we are bringing in to the town by opening their shops on sun 29th novhappy :)

Don't know why you are having a'Christmas' street market in November !!!

Why not have it closer to 25th Dec?

In November there won't be any snow, no Xmas trees, no Crib, no festive food in the shops. Just miserable people in the rain avoiding the floods.

I think it's a brilliant idea!! Would much prefer to bring my one year old son out to it when it suits us, rather than having to drag him out one cold evening when he will be tired!!
As for it being at the end of November - probably the best time as most of the December weekends are taken up by people going out to places like White Rose to get their shopping finished in time for Christmas, so this will give them the opportunity to support their local community without it interfering with that. Plus, all big Christmas markets, such as the German Christmas markets, start in the last week in November anyway. Can't wait guys!!!

P.S. for Peter:
Please could I use the link to the poster and post the event on the local Netmums boards? I'm sure it would be of interest to people who visit the site.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the event taking place just the timing.

Everything to do with Christmas seems to start earlier every year.

It's the commercial side that bugs me.

Christmas is about the birth of Christ not buying presents and spending money you don't have.

I think that's very rude and out of order skippy, this is a public forum where you are entitled to an opinion and this is mine, I merely suggested that perhaps it was a little early for a Christmas Market ,oh and secondly I noticed on of your posters in the new flower shop and it's very specific to Briggate! What about the shopkeepers on kirkgate?? Will people know to shop down there? Just a thought?as for being a Scrooge myself and my husband have two children and we love Christmas.
