This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Hi, The Forest of Bradford (www.beat.org.uk) are hoping to secure funding for a project centred on Swartha Wood in Silsden. We previously identified Swartha as an ancient woodland through botanical surveys but no work has been done in terms of its history/archaeology. We would really like to get Silsden residents involved in this research through various interesting activities. If anyone is interested we'd really like to hear from you!

Hi, we are planning some archaeology, woodland management, including coppicing, hedgelaying, drystone walling. All aspects of conservation of the habitat but also any historical/archaeological features if we find any. Green woodworking skills, charcoal making, kiln building. We will put on walks and talks, botanical and historical. We are very much open to suggestions about what you might find interesting as well at this stage. Thanks very much

I am currently working Monday to Friday, usually starting work at 1300. This means that I am limited to mornings and weekends.

I have taken the DSWA intermediate course through Craven College and done their Hedgelaying course. I have recently attended a coppicing event run by the National Trust in the Peak District National Park. I would like the opportunity to learn more about coppicing, hedgelaying and other arboricultural operations.

I have experience of the use and maintenance of chainsaws. But as yet I am unqualified. Any training courses available through the trust would be appreciated.

Very interested in the history/archaeology side of it. I found a Roman silver denarius in one of the fields next to Swartha Wood.
