Firework seasons are typically October 15 to November 10, and December 26 to 31. What we need is fireworks to be either display only or at the very least restricted dates so all pet owners and all people who are negatively affected by fireworks can prepare themselves. Think about our veterans, our elderly, our autistic children, those who remember the blitz... People in domestic violence situations and sufferers from PTSD. |

I am elderly and I do not mind fireworks! Some people would have us living in wimp world, wearing yellow clothing, never running, single story buildings....... Am I the only one fed up with this sort of nannying. |

Some selfish moron let off four very load fireworks starting at twelve minutes past midnight, woke us up and frightened our dog so much she was shivering for a hour afterwards. That sort of behaviour is antisocial illegal and unnecessary, whomever it was should be ashamed of themselves. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Our dog has been a quivering wreck for the last five evenings now, as soon as he hears a firework outside that's it for the night, he gets so stressed out he is shivering and panting for hours, and there is no consoling him. If those of you who don't give a damn could see him, you might change your mind about fireworks. One night in November and one in December is fine, but not for weeks on end please. |

Thank you Peter, I have written this to them all. I feel the time has come for the general sale of fireworks to be banned, only organised, licensed events run by trained professionals should be allowed. I say this on the grounds of public safety, both from antisocial behaviour and the threat of terrorists getting hold of explosives. Please do everything you can to support this call. I suggest everybody who feels as I do also writes the the lot of them. |

The problem is not the fireworks but the owners of the poor dogs. If the so called owners really cared about their dogs they would make sure they are trained to cope with the human world. In the wild animals learn to live with thunder and lightning. Horses and dogs have been trained to cope with the noise of war so training them to cope with the noises of life is obviously not a problem. So instead of life having to change for the benefit of very badly trained dogs dogs need to be trained for the modern world. Ownership of a dog should include the ability to train it properly. Licencing and regular testing is essential, especially for the welfare of the dogs. |

Old minor, training can only go so far, I don't suppose the Police horse spooked by a drone wasn't trained, but it still panicked and injured itself enough to have to be put down. Anyway it is not only dogs that suffer from these indiscriminate sounds from fireworks, at this time of years we are supposed to remember the ones who gave their lives for this country, sadly those who died won't be effected by the fireworks, BUT the ones suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome will! Possibly with much more of an upsetting outcome. Hillbilly if he doesn't apologise for his post? Then you were right. |

As a child of the 1950s my parents both went through WW 2 with all the associated bangs, and I think the dogs managed as well! They, and the neighbours certainly were not put off by the bangs of November. Only well known dog lover from WW 2 was the well know veggie one A Hitler. No doubt if he had won we would be living in a world run for the benefit of dogs. Seems to me it is that type of world some people would prefer. |

I am curious to know where we have gone so badly wrong in the training of our dog. He was exactly one year old last year when the fire works started, someone let of a very loud banger in the adjoining garden whilst he was outside about two weeks before bonfire night. That was all it took to make him petrified even if the noises are a long way off, even now his mood changes as it gets dark each evening because he thinks something bad is going to happen again. It will probably wear off after a while and he will forget about it until they start again around Christmas and New Year. Perhaps Old Miner who seems to think we have failed in our dog training duty, can tell us the correct procedure to follow that ensures he is not scared of fireworks in future. We have have tried everything we can think of so far without success. Its all well and good spouting rubbish on here, but can you back it up with anything useful ?? |

Hitler was not the only well known dog lover during WW2 one other well documented one was Guy Gibson V.C. His dog was called Nigger unfortunately it was killed by a car just before they set off to destroy the Rhur dams. You choose to reply about dogs and ignore all the other reasons why the general sale of fireworks should be banned, why? |

Other than dog owners of poorly trained dogs and the misery section of the safety industry mafia I do no know of any real opposition to fireworks. |

old miner do you agree, fireworks could be a particular problem for guide dogs and their blind owners. Such a problem, in fact, that each year a number of guide dogs have to be retrained or even retired early because of the stress caused by fireworks. I look forward to your reply. |

I reckon Old Miner must have shares in a fireworks company, either that or a dog has pooped on his lawn because it had not been trained correctly. He is entitled to his opinion, but that's all it is, just a biased opinion. The training website links were interesting though, each one we looked at contained all the things we have already tried, so not much use to us really. |
