IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I remember this gathering and I would say the year was about 1969. My Grandma lived on the canal bank and I remember the family walking up and down the boats. As someone has mentioned the Co-op coal yard is still there as is the hen pens up Howden Road and the barn at Holmes farm. I am afraid I do not know what the gathering was for.

Just a correction to your post ,the hen pens are no longer there , the land was owned by a chap called Kit Edmundson and when he died his daughter had 3 bungalows built on the plot and wanted to call them Kit Close but as there was already a Kit Lane in Silsden (up Raikes Road) they had to settle for Christopher Close Hope this helps
