IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Old Methodist Chapel, Silsden Moor?? |
|
| Peter |
Posted on behalf of Joan Tindale Have read somewhere (probably in old chapel list of preachers for the area) that there was a little Methodist or Baptist Chapel somewhere just out of the main town? Could anyone point me in the right direction please as every time we come through I am on the lookout. Thanks. Joan Tindale |

Bob, Raikes Rd doesn't exist on modern maps. I assume you mean Bradley Road... but looking at your directions on the map I get a bit lost... but then I can easily get lost. ![]() A Google Map reference for Joan, and the enlightenment of the rest of us, would be appreciated if you have the time. |

quotepeter, can see you not a true cobbydaler ![]() I never said I was, you assumed I grew up in Wiltshire but have no intention of going back there. I have lived in Silsden for about 20 years, which is the longest I have lived anywhere. |

from Bob's directions it sounds like it's on Kit Lane maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=53.932557,-1.955824&spn=0.005849,0.019076&t=h&z=16 |

Turn into Bradley Road from Bridge Street, head to the very top (as descibed by Bob T) and then left into Kit Lane. Pass Kiln Hill Lane on left and a hundred yards or so down is the old Silsden Moor Methodist Chapel, now a private house. Built by local farmers and opened at Easter 1888. Seating was provided for 70 people, with oil lamps and a stove in the middle for warmth. Anniversary celebrations were held every Easter and, right to the end, people walked up from the village for tea and sometimes a concert at this time. The chapel closed in 1980. |

Oops, sorry! The above should read 'turn right into Kit Lane', passing Kiln Hill Lane on the left. |

Posted on behalf of Joan Thanks v. much, will now be able to take a look- always wondered where the old chapel was. We have Cowling Hill Baptists here- built around 1744 and still going strong- a similar place! Pls. thank those who have replied as I am not familiar with your site (as yet.) A pity that the Silsden Chapel did not keep on until its centenary though. Joan Tindale, Cowling. |
