Having heard that it was 'some woman parachuted in from London" a quick search revealed one Jane Thomas, lived in the region for quite a while and definitely not some junior being given an easy seat.
At least she has not been a lawyer or accountant, but a University Lecturer. Pity is in politics and bull rather than something useful, but we cannot have it all.
She looks a reasonable follow on to Ann Cryer. At least she can have my vote.
At my age I will of course be voting labour out of pure self interest. A lot of their actions and policies are and have been pretty hopeless. However, the other lot still look much worse so no argument there. As for the liberal democrats, well, they seem to stand for everyone at the moment - all things to all men. Must see who there prospective candidate is though. As for the rest. Well as far as I am concerned none of them are living in the real world. Greens would have us back in mud huts. UKIP obviously want us to end up the 51st state and as for the national front, I cannot drag my knuckles on the floor so nothing there.

I've voted Labour every election for over 40 years, but never again while Gordon Brown is about. He is a disaster, and when history is written he will be the worst PM (and maybe the worst Chancellor) ever known. So you guys can follow the road to further disaster, but not me!

While I think a lot of the governments policies are hopeless, and the implementation appalling, for me personally at my age on a relatively low income they have not been too bad. I do fear the other lot lead by the hooray Henrys so if you vote them in then I can honestly say I warned you.

Other than all the personal attacks on him from the right wing controlled popular press I am not sure if GB is quite as bad as he is painted.

Never met him, but I understand that one to one GB is actually quite nice. Then I think AH was so it is important to seperate policies from persona.

If this is the worst recession for over 50 years why is unemployment less than in the last two recessions under the cons?.Could it be that Gordon dosent think unemployment is " a price worth paying" as Thatcher and Major believed in the 18 years they were in power.Anyone over 60 who thinks that under the cons they would have got Free Prescriptions,Bus fares,Swimming,Loft insulation, Entrance to Museums, £250 towards fuel bills and much more they must be deluding them selves.

I certainly won't be voting Labour. They just take money from hard working people and then give it to people who can't be bothered.
I listen to people on this forum saying they're elderly so need to look after themselves but Labour give you a £95 pension and yet their ministers take £70,000 per year.
I paid into my private pension all my life but one of the first things Brown did was steal it! He also sold our gold reserve at one of the lowest prices available so he could fritter that away too.

i too will be voting labour.

The media has had it in for Gordon Brown since he came to power, purely because his face doesnt fit. Unfortunatly, the media is too powerful in this country and people are bound to be swung to believe what they say.

Brown was our most successful chancellor ever, minimum wage, low inflation and lowest unemployment ever amongst his achievements.

The tories havent changed and will continue to impress the rich and hammer the poor. We are a working class town and our roots are labour. dont be fooled by tory propaganda.

Seems, I am happy to say, that there are plenty of people who can see beyond the short term guff pushed by the popular media.

The Daily Mails and Express have both been at this for a very long time. Sometimes they get it right. A lot of the time they do not, but we all know this so take them with a bag of salt. Whatever their misguided out pourings they do have the country at heart.

New International however is a foreign profit making company. When it attack the government then we should wonder why.

No Sky box here also.

well said shaggyNZ, with you all the way. Don't let the rude comments upset you, at least you escaped from all of this mess, good on yer! We've got relatives in OZ, they are glad they got out...different world over there, and the politicians know how to run the country properly...no recession there! They run a tight ship, no immigration problems, sound economy, saved for a rainy day when times are good....is Gordon Brown listening? Doubt it.

Correct victor, the trouble with the tories recessions is that they used unemployment as a weapon against the working classes!

Exactly as they will do again next year IF they get in to power!

Realistically the two contenders for this area are Jane Thomas and Kris Hopkins!

Perhaps everyone should be reminded that Kris Hopkins is the current leader of Bradford Council!

His track record? A big hole in the centre of Bradford that they cannot regenerate and plans to make a city park and lake for goodness knows how many millions.

Do you want him as a member of the cabinet along with Camerons cronies? Not for me sad :(

sad :(
I see there are no takers on Labour leader Ian Greenwoods idea to make good the hole in the ground;

"Ideally, we need six high-quality ladies’ dress shops in the centre of Bradford.

“Women spend the vast majority of the retail spend in this country and we need things to attract them into the centre of Bradford. High-quality clothing shops would do that.”

And thats it. Labours plan to make good Bradford. I will need some convincing to vote for any of the main parties.

alan...you are a loyal labour party supporter, to be commended, but the current government is tired, run out of ideas, got rid of a lot of good ministers thru internal throat cutting, badly led at the top, and is in need of a rest. It's time for a change of some sorts, maybe a coalition government that would work together to make things better...time for some fresh thinking, not just old party politics?

It appears to me that Labour are on the way out.

They can't win the next election with Brown.

Accept, like the vast majority of the country, that the next government will be the Torries.

You don't accept it? Wake up and smell the coffee.

Broken eggs, I would have you know two things = one, I am from good Cobbydale stock tho' braught up in Sutton, and two, I worked in the UK for forty odd years, paid my taxes and never drew a penny in benefits!! How did I help ruin the country ??? Maybe next year when I'm in Silsden you could by me a pint in the Robin to celebrate a change of government.
A big hello to all my old drinking pals over there

come on alan, most of us don't read those papers, and if you think we would just do what they say, then you are misjudging what people really feel. They make their own minds up come election day, based on what they have seen, what hits their pockets, and who they think might be able to run the country better. That's how Labour got back in after 18 years out. We needed a change. The old myth about the media is over, we can make our own minds up!
Brown is desperately doing his best to bulls*** us with last minute promises he can't keep, but it's too late.

Carliol just take a look at the wonderfull New Zealand site,if your over 56 or you, your spouse or your children are ill dont bother applying. Most Brittish citizens who do get in dont become New Zealand citizens ,because when they get old enough they claim a pension from us and every few years they come over hear to get it topped up.(some might call them parasites).

my husband made redundant 2004. job seekers allowance? yes for the permitted time and then? couldn't claim cos i worked. i was made redundant 6 weeks ago. job allowance? no cos receiving pension. living at the moment on my pension alone. claim for anything else? no cos i have to get my personal pension to kick in. husband claim for pension credit? no cos under the circumstances, he can now get his own personal pension to kick in. only when these personal pensions are up and runnning can we find out if we are able to claim for any other benefits which apply to over 60s.
vote for labour - too true. expect handouts. no!! why should we? we do not have mega bucks. we do however have enough to keep us going. i do not like many of the policies at the moment but they go back way beyond the labour government and that is what people forget.
a couple of issues for example - pensions? who started the private pension scenario? who said we could buy council houses as our own but didn't build anything to replace them?
kris hopkins? what's he done? i have issues with anne cryer but at the end of the day i have to be realistic and i will be voting labour. could go on all night but shouldn't talk politics.

One should not be embarrassed talking politics. One of the reasons the UK is a free and prosperous state today is that over the centuries people have argued politics.

PS If anyone does not think we are a free and prosperous state (relatively maybe rather than absolutely - but the aim for perfection must go on) then to paraphrase a WW1 phrase "find a better 'ole".

OK, today you probably can, just, but the majority are like that because somewhere in our history, recent and past the UK has helped make it so.
