I'm convinced Bradford is anti-business. They go out of their way to approve housing schemes on land designated for business use.
The small business owners do not help themselves when they cause obstructions with 'A boards' on the pavements, but the blanket ban does seem a bit of a broad brush.

The notice Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We want to ensure all businesses who may be impacted by the ban have plenty of notice, and using the business rates notification in the New Year is the simplest and most cost effective way of doing that.
The council said it had liaised with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) and other local disability groups.
In their submission to the council the RNIB said removing A boards would enable many people to walk along their local streets without fear of colliding with a heavy, painful sign".
From April 2018, businesses which flout the ban repeatedly can be served with a Community Protection Notice under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act of 2014.
Failing to comply with the Notice can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 and the confiscation of the A board. |

When I lived in otley A-boards on the thin footpaths were a nightmare for sighted folk, never mind those with sight issues, pushchairs and wheelchairs. LCC banned them on paths which couldn’t leave a clear 1m, it didn’t stop them appearing everywhere until there was a total ban in the centre. Regrettably there are those that still flaunt it as there’s not enough staff/wardens/enforcement officers to police it. |
