This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Driving out of town this AM I noticed there are no Christmas lights up yet, except the library has a few outside.

Aren't they normally up by now?

Unfortunately, yes these are all the lights you are getting this year!

The ongoing problem is that the timers in the bottom of the lampposts have been giving problems for a number of years now, as these are out of our control we have asked the man at Bradford to look at them and let us know what he advises as a way forward, in all this time he hasn’t got back to us, so we have had no option but to only use the power we can get from elsewhere.

Hopefully he will reply to the invitation from Silsden Town Council to attend a meeting where we can find a solution that will provide us with a way forward.
That should mean we get back to somewhere near the usual display for next year.

If the power problem is resolved for 2009, then it would be a big help if a few more of the people of Silsden who are voicing their discontent now, were to actually get off their backsides and come along to give the very few hard pressed workers who freely give up their time to erect the display, many of whom do not live in the town, a helping hand.

I'm not one to take offense much at what people say on the internet, but if people say they are disappointed at no lights I see no reason to insult them by suggesting they are lazy.

If the lights are put up by volunteers then I say a great big thank you to them. I can't help wondering why though? Surely all the lights in Bradmet area are not done by volunteers.

As for getting off my backside I already asked Cllr Naylor to look into this when I though my thread was going to die. I'll also gladly come and help, but I'm no good at heights.

I think I am correct in saying that lights in general are not done by volunteers. BUT Bradford contribute towards Silsdens and we have the freedom to choose real Christmas lights and not PC correct 'festive' lights!

Long live that choice I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bradford contribute a maximum of £500 if we spend £1000,
Thanks for the offer of help next year for eveybody who goes up a ladder we need two on the ground holding the ladder and dealing with the bulbs, so keep a watch on this site and we will let you know the dates for next year.

Humbug! Even town tree has no lights on
9:50am Thursday 11th December 2008

All that Silsden wants for Christmas this year is a full set of festive lights.

Residents have noticed a distinct lack of twinkle in the air which has left many asking if Scrooge has come to town instead of Santa......read more

I think its great it's about time we saved some money and the enviroment all towns/cities should adopt the same idea as silsden and do away with all christmas lights and spend the money on something better such as clearing the streets of drunken yobs
