Redwings seen in several Silsden gardens today. A very unusual visitor near houses. They usually feed on farmland, getting insects from the ground, but hunger is driving them into town. The RSPB says they're at risk of perishing in this severe winter and are appealing for us to put out apples and berries. |

About ten days ago we had about six or seven red wings eating the red berries on our cherry tree. Then more came each day until there were between fifty and one hundred, they swarmed like starlings do,all coming and going together.Sadley all the berrys are gone and so have the redwings. |

I've had a greater spotted woodpecker in my garden for the last few weeks which I've not seen until this winter. |

had a flock of around 20 fieldfares in the tree at the end of our garden earlier today. i wasnt sure what they were until i looked them up, i thought they were thrushes at first.
Heard the tawny owl as well, the foggy weather must have them thinking its dusk |

I must say that it makes a nice change on here to read about wildlife rather than dog poo, roadworks, traffic congestion, fraudsters etc..... |

Fieldfares were back this morning behind drabble house, probably looking for easier pickings after last nights snow. Must have been 50-100. Saw them a week or so ago further across the fields towards swartha |

So they were Redwings or Fieldfares we have been been disturbing when we have walked up the fields for the last few weeks - just looked up what they look like!
There have been hundreds eating the hawthorn berries as you go up the field towards Swartha, not so many now because they have eaten all the berries. It was difficult to identify them because it tended to be getting dark and they were silhouetted against the sky.
