IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. A group of us wanted to take over the Old Library building and the Wesley Place building and make a community facility for Silsden, but it was not to be. Some of our "so say" representatives "with the interests of Silsden" were not helpful, but you can read about it here: wesleyplace.org.uk/the-project/a-meeting-with-bradford and for the full story here: wesleyplace.org.uk |

Once again Silsden is being robbed to pay for the numerous follies in the centre of Bradford! |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) So have I got this correct. Mr Mallinson is heavily involved with a project to sell these assets in order to pay for the Town Hall refurb. Its confirmed by the Councils Nigel Gillett(?) that these would be sold for housing which to meet the cost of the refurb it would need to be sold for housing. A local group enquired about the assets and were given the value of housing land. Suddenly these assets are going under the hammer at a knock down price. It would seem this is after Mr Mallinson introduced "an interested company" to Bradford Council. It is always murky waters that surround Mr Mallinson But fellow Craven ward councillor, Andrew Mallinson, is pleased the buildings are being marketed as potential office space. Cllr Mallinson said both buildings are ideally suited for office accommodation, and he had already put one interested company in touch with the council. He said: From a regeneration perspective, the council is keen to see the economic benefits of someone using it for office space rather than for housing." www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/14533400.Silsden__39_s_former_library_and_offices_should_be_offered_to_community__says_councillor/?ref=rss&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook Interestingly comments on this story on the Keighley News website are "closed" |

I would like to know how the old Wesley place building will make a useful office space, when according to the map on the action site it doesn't have any access? It is land locked. |

There are two plots - 1) the library and 2) the Wesley Place offices/old sunday school Until a few days ago the legal pack was such that it would have been impossible to get to the Wesley Place building without trespassing on the Old Library plot. Today I received an email telling me the legal pack had been updated. It would appear the Wesley Place building now has some sort of access across the library plot although from the documentation it is not at all clear if this is the case. The access also looks extremely narrow. |

Peter, I am sure you will correct me if I am wrong, But I believe the spot shown on the map as the access point is several feet below the road level, and not wide enough for any form of vehicle? |

Bradford is totally incompetent - that's the only conclusion I can come to. 4 hrs before the auction starts, at 8.09 this morning I received the following email. Reference: Lot 003 - Wesley Place, Silsden, Keighley, West Yorkshire, BD20 0PH This e-mail is to notify you that new legal documentation has been uploaded in respect of the above property. Please note that the uploaded information may be additional to that previously included or may replace existing documents. The Auction Team THE AUCTION IS TODAY AT 12pm ![]() They can't even get the plans correct to sell the property, what chance did we have trying to get it transferred to us as a community asset? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Apart from the two different coloured strips at the bottom ot the library bit, what is the change? It looks to me as if the change should be to both of the lots? |

quote£375,000...what will Silsdens' cut be!!!! Coun Mallinson did not know how much the extra costs would be, but said he had not heard mention of £400,000 as a potential figure for the whole project. Bradford Council this week confirmed the extra costs were part of ongoing maintenance, including roof repairs, but did not give a figure. Bradford Council plans to raise the £300,000 core costs of the project by selling the library building in nearby Wesley Place and moving the library into the town hall. |
