This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

This afternoon a car waiting to turn right into Elliot Street was hit from behind with some force by another car which then veered sideways onto the pavement narrowly missing a pedestrian. Another car then came out of Elliot Street & turned left up Kirkgate narrowly missing my wife who was on the zebra crossing(guess the driver was still looking at the smash). Yet another incident at this increasingly dangerous crossing point. There could have been fatalities today.

Sorry to hear about the accident, and the fright your wife had. You will be pleased to know this junction will be improved soon.

The crossing will become a Pelican Crossing, but because there was a dispute as to which crossing should be upgraded (Town Hall or Elliot Street) it will probably will not be changed unroll 2014. (:

sorry to hear about the accident, I don't see how a pelican crossing would have prevented what happened, hopefully it will make more drivers stop at the crossing than do at the moment but there will no doubt still be idiots who are in their own little world who won't even notice it

Upgrading the crossing at Elliot Street to a Pelican Crossing should make it much safer for all concerned. I understated the changes... besides being made into a Pelican Crossing there will be a hatched area on the junction and loops will be put on Howden Road and Elliot Street, which will make it easier for traffic to get out of these street because the loops will activate the crossing light for a brief time to allow a few cars out.

Because there will be lights there will have to be warnings to slow the traffic coming over the canal bridge, so there may be a 20mph zone in this area.

Hmmm. Hands up all those who think a 20 mph limit will have much more effect than the current 30?

How is that East Morton can have 20 mph speed limit through the village with speed cameras and we who have more traffic cant. Perhaps there are some councillors live there !!

And Crosshills has 20mph limit as well. Time for change to a safer limit in Silsden. Will it happen? No.....

East Morton might have a 20 limit but it doesn't have speed cameras. It has warning signs that light up if you approach them too fast. And funnily enough, at commuting times, they never seem t go out. I've overtaken on the very bottom of the hill down not East Morton before now. Also followed police cars who pul away rapidly as I slow and they don't. Pretty much the same in Crosshills.

Lower signed limit won't do a thing. Nor will warning signs. Needs constant police presence for a week or more, repeated regularly.
