This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Reading an article in the T & A it was suggested that Bradford look at some of the derelict land to the South of Bradford to sort out their housing shortage. Seems like a good idea, close to Bradford where the jobs are happy :)

This idea was dismissed out of hand and the suggestion was that housing should be in places like Ilkley, Addingham and Silsden where people want to live because of the diversity of shops and a community.

Yes, a nice place to live but for how long if they destroy it with lots of houses built on the green belt, and where will all these new house owners work? Bradford, Skipton, Keighley, Leeds (but not Silsden). Where is the sustainability. I'm not against new houses but the community should be allowed to grow, if there is work the workers will need houses but they should be close to the work.

Expect the Local Development Framework to suggest lots of houses for Silsden built on our green fields. I can think of lots of sites within Bradford, perhaps we should identify them!

Councillors' 'new town' suggestions are ridiculed

The main problem with this is that developers will get more money from building on green belt land than brown belt. It is a national issue, that is anything but sustainable.

As I've said before, there are hundreds of empty, derelict mills, warehouses etc that could and should be transformed into affordable starter homes.
