Am I missing something?

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is going to expand the rail station car park at a cost of £3.879 million to gain 104 extra car parking spaces - that's £37,298 per space. When finished the parking will still be FREE.

We all know this will not benefit Steeton or Silsden residents. But the commuters from North Yorkshire and Lancashire, who will benefit from the West Yorkshire transport subsidies.

The work is going to take a year, so misery for all that use the station and the roads which will be blocked by commuters trying to find a space.

The excuse is "the improved provision will help increase patronage at the station by September 2021, and help take more cars off the road".

So those that use the train further down the line will not get a seat. From Bingley it's difficult to get a seat at the moment if it's the peak time for travelling.

So why is all this money being spent?

Your 100% right!

But unfortunately its not only Bradford MDC that's pushing for this but your town councillors that are supporting it.
They some how think that this is a great initiative for our townships and is 'value for money' using tax payers money.

You know what will happen next? In a few years time we all will have to start paying for its use.

As far as I'm aware I have never heard of anyone complain about the current car park. It as only been our local councillors that have been pushing for it, but BMDC also whant to create a hub (traffic) presumably!!

As you have pointed out the more they encourage/increase parking the less chance of others getting on the train further down the line, without a significant increase of trains or carriages.

Furthermore I would suggest that traffic will significantly increase in the area as more vehicles drive in, particularly from North Yorkshire, but also as a result vehicles from the 800 more houses to be built in Silsden over the next 11 years! -Thats going to be at least another 1600 cars (not including other areas).

With no chance of increased road infrastructure...you can imagine what's going to happen?

Why are North Yorkshire residents allowed to purchase West Yorkshire metrocards?
West Yorkshire residents cannot purchase a North Yorkshire residents parking badge.
Simple.

i think they can if in skipton area as the metro card stopped at silsden station a while ago but they extended to skipton, poss hoping that some or more commuters would use cononley and skipton station instead of traveling to steeton silsden and using up the parking places.i think its the same with the buses as well.

Down south they build a multi story car park. Not free but plenty of spaces. Didcot across from the rail museum centre.

If they must spend an eye watering amount of money to provide free car parking, to our friends across the border, to use our subsidised transport then perhaps they should consider this car park system

You can't tell me this would cost £3.9 million. Wonder if we will be paying for the electricity for the electric charging points as well?
