Any chance of having seperate buggy/pram lanes and pedestrian lanes on the pavement, so we can all get about our business.

if the pcso's did something about it instead of just walking/cycling past , then maybe people would think twice. I am fed up of having to walk in the road because of all the idiots who park on the pavement. I saw pcso just cycle past the other day even though there were cars on the pavement!!!

I think we all ought to take the advice given on here many times before and take notes of registrations and put a message in the box in the post office for the PCSO/Community Policing team to look at.

Certainly that picture linked above shows appaling lack of consideration for anyone wanting to use the pavement. I doubt a buggy or pram would have got thru that gap. Dare I guess it was when the footy was on?

It was a cricket match but the football supporters are just as bad. All these sporty people seem to be unable to walk. On the particular day the picture was taken they parked on both sides of the road and all, but none, parked on the pavement. It was impossible to get a buggy or wheelchair by the cars and, as you can see from the picture, only just possible to walk by the cars.

Parking on the pavement is not confined to Keighley Road and seems to endemic in Silsden.

If somebody parked partly on the footpath but leaving room for a pram or wheelchair to get past AND it made sure emergency vehicles could get past then I think thats ok.
I dont think the photo is the best example because the actual football is, in place too narrow and people with prams/wheelchairs would be well advised to use the path on the opposite side of the road.

Parking on pavements is illegal, see the Highway Code section 244. www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069860

Section 243 should be read too.

so as I understand it offcumden, am I correct in thinking it is illegal to park on any pavement, whether with two wheels or four?unless signs permit it.
of course when the newly redesigned traffic wardens take over they'll have a field day!
you only have to drive into silsden looking left and right at pavements littered with cars not pedestrians.

im already known to the police for suspected terrorism on the 17th august this year
(apparantly filming the inside of the tyne tunnel is illegal)
we spent 90 minutes chatting to the police while special branch checked that we werent terrorists

would have been funny to see daisydog with one of those police photos holding the number board up in profile pic lol

last night on keighley road by the football ground some were parked on the road some on the pavement
i got past all of them in the car
why dont they all park on the roadside coming into silsden
if they only parked on one side it would probably stop this issue?

I would applaud anyone who can get a pram/pushchair/wheelchair from the sports ground to the train station with or without the parked cars, especially the section at Jackson's/old gala field, it was bad before they re-surfaced the road but since then it's just a mess. (slightly changing the topic i know, but i just thought I'd have my two penneth)

very kind of you Peter to blur the registration of that Silver car in the photo, however, I beleive you don't actually need to. When someone is out in a public place (or parks their car in a public place) it is legal to publish photographs of them, because the images are copyright of the photographer. The person, or vehicle(?), has no right and should have no expectation of privacy.

From the BBC Website Editorial Policy:--

"Public & semi-public places
An individual's right to privacy is qualified by location.

We should therefore not normally reveal information which discloses the precise location of a person's home or family without their consent, unless it is editorially justified.

People in public places or in semi-public places such as airports, railway stations and shopping malls cannot expect the same degree of privacy as in their own homes...

An individual's right to privacy is also qualified by their behaviour. People are less entitled to privacy where their behaviour is criminal or seriously anti-social."

Perhaps we should all get out snapping pics of these illegally parked cars, post them online and direct our PCSO/Traffic Wardens to the URLs.

The pictures are not shown for a vendetta against an individual but to show the problem. Someone with the authority to give out parking tickets on that day could have cleaned up ie 30 cars parked on the pavement and if the fine is £40 that would mean 30 x £40 = £1200 (now that would be a good Christmas party)

If nothing is done and seen to be done about this problem, which is not confined to Keighley Road, we will have to continue walking on the road around cars parked on the pavement. sad :(

On Tuesday morning last a PCSO gave a ticket to a car parked entirely blocking the pavement in Craven Ave. Not sure who it belonged to but have hopes.

Footpaths are for walking on.
Roads are for driving on.
Parking on roads and footpaths should be made illegal.
No where to park your car?
Tough - I pay road tax to travel on the roads, not to negotiate parked cars.

Dig up the pavements, you know it makes sense!

If all the pavements were dug up on the sidestreets the cars could park really close to residents gates and walls, and then pedestrians could walk down the middle of the road and have an equal right of way.

Dig up the pavements! happy :)

Not a bad idea. I believe they have tried this in some town centres. Result, cars have to travel slowly as pedestrians are everywhere. Cars have to act like pedestrians. Seems to work accidents have gone down.

As an example. In the centre of Manchester people co-exist with the trams. Check out
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGoCCLveC8w
to see what I mean.
Maybe we should have trams back?

At 1.00pm today the football supporters parked their cars on the pavement on both sides of Keighley Road - I could have taken the same pictures as before.

Do we have to put up with this inconsiderate behavior? Pavements should be for people not cars.

With the greatest amount of respect re the parking of cars on Keighley road as most of you know a new football pavilion is in the process of being built and because it is abuilding site no cars at all are allowed to enter the ground this coupled with the fact that all the football and cricket traffic used to park in the mill yard by the blue bollards but because this mill closed down and gypsys chose to camp and live in the yard ,they were moved on and large concrete barriers were installed to stop any traffic entering so please be patient re this problem and hopefully when the building work is complete then parking wiil be available inside the ground for 50 cars

There is NO excuse for parking on the pavement, pavements are for people.

There is usually lots of available road parking along Belton Road but people are too lazy to walk 100m.

Agreed. Parked on the road yesterday but only a few on Belton Road. If the sports clubs there do not want to put to many peoples backs up I think they need to get organised and direct traffic onto the industrial estate roads.

The Gym by the bridge is just as bad. On the pavement so it is not to far to walk to the gym. Cannot be doing them much good if they cannot walk from a parked car some distance away!!!!

i've got a problem with people who have bought a house that only has enough space for one car outside their frontage and yet they own two or three cars. ongoing gas works on back of elm grove springs to mind.

It was the same today but it was visiting cricket players/supporters.
I know the football club have advice on their website about the fact Riverside is no longer available and people should park on Belton Road.
If I goto watch Leeds Utd the police put no waiting cones out around the ground and if this problem persists perhaps they could do the same

Sorry for stating it was football supporters parking on the pavement on an earlier post. I should have guessed it was probably cricket supporters (the pictures were from when a cricket match was being played).

Perhaps Silsden cricket match organisers should provide parking advice to visiting teams, and provide a map!

couldnt have put it better peter
i have no problem with people parking on the road considerately and some roads are better than others to park on

on the way back from the car boot sale most of the parked cars by the football ground in my opinion were no problem
but there were 2 in particular that were idiots

both were the silsden side of the enterence to the ground both had only one set of wheels on the road and they were pretty much touching the kerb so not even a size 0 supermodel could get past on the pavement without going on a diet

The car boot has no excuse for parking on the road, plenty of room on the field!

They too should cone the road for no parking and put marshalls on to advise!

Unfortunately we at the football club struggle for volenteers. When the 1st team play at home then home to us is Cougar Park.We have volenteers who man the turnstyles, sell programmes, steward the games, entertain visting officials, use the tannoy and so on.If we had enough people to also be at Silsden for reserve, sunday and youth games we would. But for all those games there is an army of people who give up their free time. The football club does more than any other organisation in Silsden to help give kids/youth something to do other than destroying the village. We just dont have enough people to keep some of our more "mature" members in check.
But if anyone wants to come along and help they will be made most welcome
