Topic : FILM - A Man a Girl and a Bicycle (Tues 1st July for one night only) |

![]() When a local cycle club, invite a couple of new members to join them, little do the club realise, that they will soon be involved in a couple of illegal bookmakers putting the squeeze on the son of one of the Members, a stolen bike, a deserting soldier on the run from the police, and a love triangle, that's bound to lead to trouble. During the late 40's and the early 50's, there seem to be hundreds of these clubs. This film shows a fascinating look at a North Country mill town, with a refreshing absence of traffic jams, yellow lines , traffic wardens, and other things we have become accustomed to seeing on our roads today. - review by mike.wilson6@btinternet.com |

Don't forget next Tuesday 7.30pm in the Methodist Church..... and it's free, but please make a donation to cover the £90 copyright fee ![]() A little teaser to give you a flavour for the 1949 scenery, can you identify where it was filmed? Have a look at some of the screen shots: www.reelstreets.com/index.php/component/films_online/?task=view&id=5&limitstart=0 See you for the "one night only", film screening of A Boy a Girl and a Bike. |

How do we get tickets for this show? I well remember my father telling me that when this film was being made he helped out with transport around Skipton and the dales both in his job as a bus driver and also part time as a taxi driver. When one of the bikes had an accident and was damaged he got the job of taking it from Grassington down to a bike shop in Skipton and waiting for it to be repaired. One of his mates got a bit part in the film were he had to fall into the river at Grassington, it took several takes before the director was happy with it, they all went to see it when it was shown in the local picture house, the mate was very put out to find the scene had been cut out. |

Turn up at the door on the night, there are NO TICKETS. Best to get there early because it looks like it will be popular. |

A excellent film, they definitely don't make them like that any more. The hall was packed with nearly 200 people and the film did not disappoint. On behalf of all that attended I would like to thank the helpers and organisers for a very pleasant night out. Donations of £369 were taken and after the copyright fees are taken out the balance will be donated to the Margaret Carey Foundation (charity). |
