This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Bradford have no money to staff Silsden library and it would appear the library either becomes community run, or it closes. sad :(

You would think Councillor Mallinson, having engineered the library into the cramped space it now occupies, would be all for making the best of a bad job when Bradford offer to foot the bills for making Silsden library community run... BUT NO! happy :)

Community control means no political control. Politicians, of all colours talk a lot about community but tend to back off when they realise who is the loser. At least one Silsden politician still has principles and places the community before politics.

Mr Mallinson promised us a better library service. But if you read the small print he said in 2013 the library and Town Hall would be community run but now claims to be disgusted and on his facebook page he tries to deflect blame onto the Town Council who he appears to think should step forward and save his pet project

Ward councillor Andrew Mallinson said the scheme was “absolutely fantastic” for Silsden.
He added: “It will rejuvenate an old building, increase usage and, hopefully, it will eventually be run by the community.”

Just an aside. Wife went for her Yoga session in the Town Hall at 10am this morning. No heating on in the building & no-one there capable of resetting the boiler. Not up to the standards we should expect.

I've said my bit on the former Town Hall. Just out of interest, how many first aiders were there for this event? I'm not saying that yoga is a strenuous event, but my understanding is that there are high numbers of people attending yoga groups. The risk of injury is moderate....

Thats two faced Bradford for you

BRADFORDIANS are increasingly bearing the brunt of Government cuts amid a North-South funding divide, angry council chiefs have claimed.

Bosses at Bradford Council have accused the Government of pumping cash into its southern Tory heartland at the expense of the North, in a settlement finalised this week.
