There was a crash on the bypass. www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/9066372.Motorcyclist_hurt_in_Keighley_collision/ |

It took us an hour to get from Keighley back to Silsden. What made it worse was that the police had put a police vehicle stopping anyone getting onto the bypass, but there was no-one stopping traffic coming out of Keighley from going round the roundabout onto the bypass. It was only when you were going round that you could then see the bypass was closed off. This meant that the traffic had to go round round the roundabout once again to join traffic onto the old road. This was over an hour after the accident had occurred, so you would have thought that someone would have had the sense to put a policeman to direct traffic accordingly. |

police use commonsense ? not in their vocabulary I am afraid, they like to cause maximum inconvenience to as many people as possible, I know they have a job to do but like you say, use a bit of commonsense.I thought the road was only closed going into keighley from silsden, not coming out as well? |

closed both ways, not sure why, only the police would know, they had a block at both ends. |

The problem was that we were bumper to bumper all the way to Steeton traffic lights and it was utter chaos there. Two policeman were there but they were not in control of the traffic. When we turned the corner the traffic was built up from the lights all the way back through Silsden. Trouble is nowadays they are not taught how to do point duty. Many years ago this was part of police training, and then you had to wear white gloves when on point duty. (I have done this by the way). |

The lack of common sense seems to be endemic in the Traffic Division of West Yorkshire Police. I am surprised they did not close the bypass between the turn off for Sislden and Crosshills as well. I got caught up with an accident between Addingham and Ilkley on the single lane bit near where the turn off for the old road about opposite the junction for Addingham Moorside. They actually closed the road all the way to the Silsden roundabout so everyone had to go through Addingham. Real joke was that access to the vehicle off the road was better from the old road that everyone was diverted down so as well as diverting the traffic they then held up the traffic with the rescue vehicles while the main road was still closed. |

I don't think the police caused the accident - it's not their fault accidents occur and it's not their fault that it needs investigating and its not their fault that the world and their dog uses their car at every given opportunity. Maybe they didn't direct travel as well as possible but that is possibly down to a service that is over stretched by budget cuts and ridiculous amounts of paperwork. |

Motorcycle rider injured in crash Published on Tuesday 7 June 2011 16:43 A motorcycle rider has been injured in an incident on the A629 near Keighley. Airedale and North Bradford Roads Policing officers would like to speak to anyone who has information about the collision on the A629 Silsden/Steeton Bypass. It happened after the rider, a 47-year-old man from Rochdale, came off his white and blue GSXR 750cc bike and came to rest in the central reservation. He had been heading towards Keighley after moving away from the roundabout at the junction with the A6034 Keighley Road. The rider was taken to hospital following the incident and is described as poorly but stable. |

Trouble is they make heavy weather of it. As for cuts. There always seem to hordes of police at an accident and most of them doing very little. Poor management of available resources. |
